Judge rejects sex assault count against Harvey Weinstein

Source: AP

By ANDREW DALTON

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles judge on Thursday again rejected one of 11 sexual assault counts in an indictment of Harvey Weinstein.

Judge Lisa B. Lench first dismissed the count of sexual battery by restraint as too old and outside the statute of limitations two weeks ago, but allowed the district attorney’s office to amend the allegation against the 69-year-old former movie mogul and convicted rapist.

On Thursday, she found that neither of two attempts at an amended complaint from prosecutors solved the problem, and rejected the count again.

Weinstein attended the hearing in LA County jail attire. He was brought into the courtroom shackled to a wheelchair, and was uncuffed as the proceedings began.

3. That's too ambiguous to comment on. Which definition of "gotten to" are you using.

Has he "gotten to" the prosecutors in such a way that they feel intimidated by him (or his henchmen).
Has he "gotten to" the prosecutors in such a way that they feel indebted to him because of bribes?
Has he "gotten to" the prosecutors in such a way that they are so disgusted with him that they're more motivated?

5. Yes. Okay. But are you suggesting that they were friends? threatened? bribed? blackmailed?

I'm not seeing what it is about Weinstein's case that you believe can be compared to the Acosta deal. Do you have something specific in mind? Or are you just speculating because you're disappointed-in, or you don't particularly approve-of the judge's ruling?

I'm not saying the fix is in, or that there is a fix, I am saying I can see where some might be suspicious.

Well, you kinda ARE saying that. What you said was: "I can see the possibilty that like Jeffry Epstein, Weinstein has gotten to the prosecutors". That was a very specific reference to yourself, not the vague group of "some" unknown individuals.

He's 69 years old. He's convicted. He's got 23 years to go. Yeah... they really screwed-the-pooch.

... and continues to receive scrutiny. Weinstein isn't going anywhere, except back to prison. At this stage, its an absurd cynical speculation that really serves no good purpose other than to cast doubts on the integrity of the prosecutor and/or the process that put him away in the first place. The justice system is working for Weinstein exactly as it's supposed to do.
