Miami, Tampa Schools Demand Masks in Defiance of DeSantis

Source: Bloomberg

(Bloomberg) -- Two of Florida’s largest school districts voted Wednesday to defy Governor Ron DeSantis and require masks for students, joining a growing chorus of opposition to the state ban on such mandates.

The Miami-Dade County School Board, overseeing the state’s largest district, voted 7-1 on Wednesday to require its 334,000 students to wear face coverings when classes begin next week, with the exception of students who provide a doctor’s note. At almost the same time, the Hillsborough County School Board, whose district includes Tampa, voted 5-2 in favor of a similar measure.

Both schools agreed to review the protocols periodically based on the evolving state of the pandemic.

“The stakes are too high not to make sure we do everything we can to ensure the safety of our children,” said Marta Perez, a Miami-Dade board member.

If there's one thing RWNJs love more than the freedumb to get their kids sick and maybe killed is the freedumb to dictate what girls can wear, whether it's pinafores or burqas.

I got a good laugh when I read the news about the Paris School District.

Our school board just caved to the rants of anti maskers. Our children are in serious trouble.. as is, of course, their families n friends. I don’t get it. I’m pissed. I want out of this madness

if a school board rejects a mask mandate and a kid ends up in the hospital the school board members who voted against teh mandate should be charged with reckless endangerment.
and its the local community that should take care of punishing them. no qualified immunity. no loopholes. lock them up in the local jail. when those in power refuse to protect the defenseless its up the the local community to take matters into their own hand

It may be hard to get criminal charges against the members, but lawsuits are a whole other matter.
