Elder's ex-fiancee said he brandished a gun at her

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. Alexandra Datig, the former fiancee and longtime radio producer for California GOP gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder, says she broke off an 18-month engagement with the conservative talk show host in 2015 after he waved a gun at her while high on marijuana.
Datigs claim, which she regards as the culmination of a series of humiliating disputes that made her fearful for her safety and her ability to maintain her sobriety, comes as Elder has gained momentum in the recall to replace Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, with many observers counting him as the likeliest GOP alternative should voters decide to replace the incumbent.
But little is known about Elders personal life. Datig portrayed him as a marijuana user who would often become threatening or insistent with her, including in his repeated demands that she get a Larrys Girl tattoo to show her devotion to him.
The alleged gun incident occurred in the midst of a heated conversation as their relationship was unraveling, according to Datig. He was in the bedroom, and I was standing by the door, she said. We talked to each other. He became silent, she said, and then slowly walked over to the nightstand, opened the door, took out the gun, a .45 pistol.

Datig made this video statement earlier calling on Elder to void her non-disclosure agreement.

(2,346 posts)Than on weed, IME. People on weed tend to get chilled and relaxed, than hypervigilant and start waving guns around.
Either way, waving a gun around and threatening people should be a disqualification.
You can't always tell.
My niece had the adult boyfriend of her daughter, while high on weed, hit her repeatedly in the stomach. Then once he had her on the floor, repeatedly pounded her head against the floor.
When he got tired of beating her, she managed to make it to the phone and called the cops to her home where the incident took place. Both of them were still there when the police arrived. The boyfriend at the time was out of jail on probation.
The police listened to both of their stories. And with the guy stinking of weed, arrested her because the guy had visible wounds on him where she'd tried to fight him off and the bruises on her hadn't shown up yet.
She told them OK but that they'd have to stop at the hospital first because the boyfriend had given her a concussion.
When the police heard that, they decided they wanted no part of the incident and decided to arrest neither of them.
The story goes on from there. But if someone on weed decides to be violent, they're perfectly capable of being violent.

(714 posts)She got a restraining order on her daughter's boyfriend. And she installed security video cameras inside and outside the house because she thought he'd be back
So the boyfriend ended up going to a judge to get permission to go into the house because he'd left some stuff there in the daughter's room.
The judge said okay but you have to do it while supervised by a policeman.
As the boyfriend is taking his stuff out of the daughter's room, he retrieves a gun from the room. Keep in mind he's on probation being watched by the police officer standing there.
The police officer lets him hold the gun but asked him about it.
The boyfriend says it's his dad's gun and he's just keeping it for him.
My niece points out that's a violation of the guy's parole and asked the policeman to do something about it, even if it was only confiscating the weapon.
The policeman declined to do anything and let the guy take the gun and go put it in his car. Her cameras caught video of him taking the gun out of the house.
She took the video to his parole officer and later to the judge who granted her the restraining order and both declined to do anything about it.
I'd expect something like that if the guy was rich and famous. But not when he's an impoverished pothead who can't hold a job.
A few months later, he stole her car and took it to Colorado to buy legal weed on a months-long road trip.
She was fed up dealing with law "enforcement" by then and just waited for him to eventually wander back.
He eventually married to my grand-niece and I assume they're illegally smoking pot forever after....

(714 posts)Yeah, my first question when someone comes up with a story like this is "what did the police have to say about it".
If an adult didn't file a report to the police and first tells something about it when the other person is running for political office, that doesn't smell right.
This isn't an offense like being raped or sexually abused where the victim might keep silent due to shame.
This is "the guy is high, probably still has drugs on him, and committed assault (but not battery) with a deadly weapon, and probably still has the weapon on him".
That's a slam dunk for the police to have done something about. And if it'd happened, it's a slam dunk for the lady to have filed a restraining order.
Not that I expect Republican voters to think it through and attempt to make a rational decision....
