(10,162 posts)Dr. Scott Rivkees, the leader of the Florida Department of Health during the coronavirus pandemic, will leave his post as Florida's surgeon general. Alberto Moscoso, the chief public information officer for the Florida Department of Health throughout the pandemic also quit.
Here's an interesting article from the Gainesville Sun about the leadership crisis at the top:

DeSantis is allowing the virus to gallop out of control. The bodies of those who lost their battle against the virus are stacking up. That's a bad sign that things are spiraling out of control: people are dying faster than the system can process the deaths.
Business Insider: Florida Hospitals Refrigerated Coolers in the Morgues are Full
https://www.businessinsider.com/florida-hospitals-refrigerated-coolers-stories-bodies-morgues-are-full-2021-8
The morgues at AdventHealth in Central Florida are full because so many people have died from COVID-19, WFTV-9 reported Thursday.
The hospital system is currently using refrigerated coolers to store the bodies. The overcrowding is said to be due to slowdowns at the local funeral homes, so the hospital has to store bodies longer.

(4,950 posts)Delta Airlines had overbooked their planes so there were people stuck waiting for another flight. Each flight was packed. It took hours for him to pick up his rental (which was hella expensive). We joked that he should have just driven from NY and it would have just cost a few more hours since his layovers were so far apart and it would have cost less. He mostly just stayed at her house and visited with his recently widowed Auntie (his uncle died of cancer last Spring).

(6,169 posts)They're only reporting 389 deaths from August 20th to August 26th. A number I find hard to believe given their daily new case numbers for the past several weeks, and their reported deaths for the previous 2 weeks.

(15,740 posts)Week of August 13 - August 19: 42,252
Week of August 20 - August 26: 43,979
That's a difference of 1,727 reported deaths. It does not jibe with the Fl DOH's reported 389 deaths for the latest week.
It may be that the Florida DOH is only reporting the deaths of Florida residents, but in any case, their 389 reported deaths for the latest week is misleading. They should explain the discrepancy between cumulative deaths and the weekly reported deaths.

(44,973 posts)My guess is, they are not reporting all deaths for the latest week, and didn't report all deaths for the previous weeks either.
But now they have added the previous deaths they didn't report to the total number of deaths.
And some time in the future they will add deaths to this latest week.
