Biden: 'Not appropriate' for protesters to follow Sinema into bathroom
Source: The Hill
President Biden on Monday said he did not agree with activists who followed Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) into a bathroom over the weekend to protest her position on a reconciliation bill containing Democratic priorities.
"I don't think they're appropriate tactics, but it happens to everybody. The only people it doesn't happen to are people who have Secret Service standing around them. So it's part of the process," Biden said, responding to a question from Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy.
Sinema traveled over the weekend to Arizona for a medical appointment and a reported fundraiser. The senator said protesters followed her into a bathroom at Arizona State University, videotaped students without their permission and recorded she and her students in a campus bathroom.
Yesterday's behavior was not legitimate protest," Sinema said in a statement. "It is unacceptable for activist organizations to instruct their members to jeopardize themselves by engaging in unlawful activities such as gaining entry to closed university buildings, disrupting learning environments, and filming students in a restroom.

(26,874 posts)I'd be pretty pissed (pardon the pun) if I were filmed in a restroom because someone was protesting a politician.

(15,325 posts)It was juvenile, stupid & mob mentality. Torches & pitchfork mentality.
Whomever organized & riled up the group should be shamed.
There are more civilized ways to make your point.
Who organized this protest?
I'm sure their cameras were in place ready to go.
Did they do the same with Republicans in their State, who ran a scam vote recount, for instance?

(9,903 posts)... this happens all the time. Reporters do it, too... I think locker rooms should be off limits, also.

(6,002 posts)... but sometimes one is only left with inappropriate actions.
If Sinema is going to dodge her (non-donor) constituents, dodge the press, avoid answering substantive questions, all of which are 'not appropriate' actions for a Senator to be taking, what does she expect will happen?
Just because the action is 'not appropriate' does not mean that it is not understandable, or in fact not inevitable.

(386 posts)I applaud Biden for saying this, doing the right thing while facing adversity.
I hope no one on DU would even think about doing stuff like this.

(1,639 posts). . . Of Taylor Green and Company stalking AOC through the mail slot of her office door. Following someone into the bathroom in such circumstances isn't protest; it's harassment.
It's good that Biden spoke to the matter.
