Peter Scolari Dies: Emmy-Winning 'Bosom Buddies', 'Newhart', 'Girls' Actor Was 66

Source: Yahoo News

Peter Scolari, the prolific television and stage actor who found instant fame and a lifelong friendship with Tom Hanks when the two co-starred in the hit 1980 TV comedy Bosom Buddies, died early Friday morning following a two-year battle with cancer. He was 66.

His death was announced by Ellen Lubin Sanitsky at Wright Entertainment.

Scolari’s 43-year show business career included such highlights as his Emmy-nominated series regular role of producer Michael Harris on Bob Newhart’s 1984-90 comedy Newhart, an Emmy-winning recurring role as the father of Lena Dunham’s character on HBO’s Girls, and, most recently, his role as Bishop Thomas Marx on the CBS supernatural drama Evil.

He was so good in every part. Loved him as "Michael" on "Newhart:" He liked nice clothes and spoke in alliterations! Many of his scenes with Bob were priceless.

Stephanie was banging on about some clearly out-of-left-field explanation for something or another.

Michael swallowed hard and replied, "That's the only theory science will support."

but I remember what a likable person he seemed to be. He was a very important part of the Bosom Buddies team. Very sad his life was cut short.

I was in the Trader Joe's after work, and saw and recognized Peter Scolari. But he was there with his kids, so being a good Angelino, I just looked at him, smiled, and moved on.
