DeSantis Explains His 'Scientific' Plan To Hire Anti-Vax Police

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has invited law enforcement officers around the country to come to Florida if they lose their jobs because they refuse to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

During an interview on Fox News, DeSantis explained that he had "scientific" reasons for hiring unvaccinated police officers.

"On a scientific basis, most of those first responders have had Covid and have recovered," DeSantis claimed without evidence. "So they have strong protection and so I think that influences their decision on a lot of this that they have already had it and recovered."

"In Florida, not only are we going to want to protect the law enforcement and all the jobs," he continued, "we're actually actively working to recruit out-of-state law enforcement because we do have needs in our police and our sheriff's departments. So the next legislative session, I'm going to hopefully sign legislation that gives a $5000 bonus to any out-of-state law enforcement that relocates in Florida."

He added: "So NYPD, Minneapolis, Seattle -- if you're not being treated well, we'll treat you better here. You can fill important needs for us and we'll compensate you as a result."

COVID-19 is killing more Florida law enforcement officers than gunfire, vehicular assault, and automobile accidents combined. 14 of the state's officers have succumbed to the virus so far this year.

It's up to individual law enforcement agencies to figure out if those officers contracted the virus while on duty. If so, the agency can rule those as line of duty deaths, and the officers' families can get associated death benefits. That would also mean their names would be added to a memorial in the state Capitol's courtyard.

19. People do get reinfected after recovering, but reported cases are rare.

Research is being done on reinfection, however, most of the money is being spent on preventing or ameliorating the initial infection.

The real question is, how does a cop prove he has had COVID in the first place, and subsequently recovered fully from the infection? There's got to be documentation, and that would conflict with DeSantis's hysterical anti-passport stance.

1) by activists or orgs in the name of public health, the immunocompromised, and/or infants and young children; and

2) by small-govt., anti-wasteful-spending, low-tax civic watchdogs or activists in the name of fiscal responsibility; and

3) by law-enforcement or good-governance watchdog groups or activists objecting to DeSantis' partisan-by-proxy hiring police who, though not out of their jobs in other states for being Trumpublicans per se, nevertheless adhere to an extreme, antisocial position openly embraced and stoked by the FRW and few others.

At the very least, some group or activist ought to secure an injunction suspending the implementation (until it's ratified by a court ruling, or abandoned altogether by Ron "Rabid Dog" DeSantis) of any such plan without too much difficulty, no?

In one city after another, police officers are loudly refusing to get vaccinated for covid-19, even quitting their jobs rather than comply with vaccine requirements. They’re probably showing up in your Facebook or Twitter feeds, and they’re being lionized as heroes in conservative media....

Third, as for those cops saying they’ll quit if they have to get vaccinated? The people who live in the places where they’re currently employed should have one message for them: Good riddance.....

For all the efforts to put police above criticism because they “put their lives on the line every day,” since the pandemic began five times as many police have died from covid-19 as from gunfire.....

And let’s be honest, privilege is something cops know a lot about. Though it would be very difficult to prove statistically, I strongly suspect that the officers quitting over vaccine mandates are much more likely than their vaccinated peers to embody everything that’s wrong with American policing.

I’ll bet they’re the ones with the strongest sense of entitlement, the loudest demands that we pay tribute to them, and the most vehement insistence that they never face accountability for misdeeds. They’re the ones hoisting those vile “thin blue line” flags, and the ones who are all in on fascistic “warrior cop” ideology......

We’re always told that police misconduct is just a matter of a few “bad apples.” Well here’s a good way to identify at least some of the ones with no concern for the well-being of the people they’re supposed to be protecting.

Covid has exposed another pandemic of mental health problems among republicans that's been festering for decades and has come to the forefront: pathologically low self-esteem which results in them hating "others". Healthcare for all would go a long long way in treating it but it'll be years before anything like that happens.
