Germany jails ISIS woman over death of Yazidi girl

Source: Politico

A German woman who joined the Islamic State group (ISIS) was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison for letting an enslaved Yazidi girl die of thirst in the sun.

During her time in Iraq, Jennifer Wenisch stood by while her then-husband and ISIS fighter tied up a Yazidi girl outside their house in scorching heat and left her to die of thirst, the court heard. The 5-year-old had been tied up as a punishment for wetting her bed.

The child was “defenseless and helplessly exposed,” the judge said in the Munich Higher Regional Court, according to DPA — and Wenisch did “nothing” to help.

Wenisch, who denied the charges, was found guilty of “two crimes against humanity in the form of enslavement,” as well as aiding and abetting the girl’s killing by failing to offer help.

It might be that the Germans don't believe that more than 10 years would help her. Steelrolled Oct 2021 #5

snip-"Monday’s conviction of Jennifer Wenisch, 30, by Munich’s Higher Regional Court marked one of the first court rulings anywhere in the world on ISIL’s persecution of the Yazidi community."

snip-"German media reported that she made her way to Iraq through Turkey and Syria in 2014 to join ISIL. Prosecutors said she subsequently integrated herself into the decision-making and command structure of the armed group.

In 2015, as a member of the group’s “morality police,” she patrolled parks in Fallujah and Mosul, armed with an assault rifle and a pistol as well as an explosive vest and looking for women who did not conform with its strict codes of behaviour and dress, prosecutors said.

She was taken into custody while trying to renew her identity papers at the German embassy in Ankara in 2016, and deported back to Germany."

more there

Wow. Left Germany traveled to join ISIL, and thought she could keep her safe German legal identity. Wow

Germans might be stricter about these crimes than Americans.

A lot of countries give less jail time than the United States.

Should have been given life in prison but I don’t know if that’s possible in their system.
