Sinema reached prescription drug negotiation deal with Biden

Source: Politico

Kyrsten Sinema struck an agreement on prescription drug pricing with President Joe Biden as part of Democrats' social spending talks, though it’s at risk of ultimately being excluded as the party tries to reach a deal that can pass.

The Arizona Democrat was somewhat reluctant to strike a deal on prescription drug price negotiation, a key campaign plank for many Democrats. But a source familiar said the president and Sinema were able to see eye to eye in the end.

“Sinema struck a deal with President Biden to include Medicare drug negotiation in the framework, consistent with the proposal authored by Congressman Scott Peters, with some edits in the insulin space to further lower costs for consumers. It is unclear if it will be included in the framework this morning — that decision was left with House leadership and Chairman Pallone,” the source said.

House Democrats fired back on Thursday. A Democratic aide said they were never party to the Sinema-White House agreement and saw it as a “Trojan horse devised by Big Pharma.”

Let the pharma industry line my pockets with a bizzilion more dollars, and I'll agree to not have ANY CHANGES in the current system?

Sounds good for her.

Sinema is a circus clown.

Scary unstable, to the point that she could just pivot on a dime, cross her arms, do a little curtsy, say "mmmm I changed my mind again", and leave the room.

Even if we finally pass at least a pared down version after Sinema and Manchin whittle it down, we have to primary her as soon as possible.

I even think we should primary Manchin. Surely there's a way to communicate better with those so underserved by his conservative positions, even though probably all radio stations in Virginia are RW hate shows, and everyone watches Fox AON, and Newsmax. And let them know how much better off they'd be with a more moderate candidate. Yes i said moderate. That would be a move from the right to the center.

11. Why Does Kyrsten Sinema Oppose Drug Pricing Reform? Maybe This Is Why.

https://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/news/sinema-opposes-drug-pricing-reform-takes-lots-of-money-from-the-pharmaceutical-industry-12026240

"Why might Sinema have such reservations? One reason might be that she has significant financial ties to the pharmaceutical industry. According to opensecrets.org, Sinema has taken more than $466,000 from individuals and political action committees tied to the pharmaceutical industry since she was first elected in 2018. Last year, Kaiser Health News dubbed Sinema a "pharma favorite in Congress" who is a "leading recipient of pharma campaign cash" even though she won't have to run for reelection until 2024.

Sinema's office did not respond to Phoenix New Times' request for comment.

Her opposition to the proposed drug pricing reforms prompted fierce criticism from notable progressives such as Robert Reich, the former U.S. Secretary of Labor under President Bill Clinton. Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has also criticized Sinema for her alleged threat to kill the larger spending bill if the House doesn't vote on the bipartisan infrastructure package by September 27.

"Changing the terms of a deal after it's done is what one does when trying to tank millions of people's chances at healthcare, childcare, climate protection, & unions," Ocasio-Cortez wrote in a tweet thread posted yesterday. "If one member's irrational demand tanks infrastructure, healthcare, & climate for the whole country then maybe that's the real entitlement reform we should be looking at."

We know there's nothing that benefits the average person. As far as Sinema is concerned, she's just a conduit to carry out their demands. Her actions are in direct opposition of the position she took during her campaign, when she promised to lower drug prices.
