Letitia James Declares Her Candidacy for N.Y. Governor
Source: New York Times
She begins the campaign as Gov. Kathy Hochuls most formidable challenger, and her announcement triggers a start to what may be an extraordinarily competitive primary a contest set to be shaped by issues of ideology, race and region in a state still battling its way out of the pandemic.
Her announcement also comes at a volatile moment in state politics, a day after Mr. Cuomo was charged in a sexual misconduct complaint based on the account of one of the women whose claims of sexual harassment were detailed in the attorney generals report.
That development, Ms. James said, validated the findings in our report, and to her allies it further cemented the case for her leadership. But it has also added fresh fuel to Mr. Cuomos suggestion that her investigation was politically motivated, a message that may resonate with some of the voters who still view him favorably.

(9,670 posts)Many here considered her our best hope of putting Trump behind bars.
Haven't heard a peep about it since.
I guess the wheels of justice turn slowly and grind exceedingly fine, yada yada yada, but when they simply stop turning that's not justice at all.

(9,670 posts)I know because you attack everyone who is uncomfortable with the state of our justice system in these days of hyperpartisanship.
You call them out.
I know you're DU royalty, but I'm growing weary of not being able to comfortably speak my mind because of bullies on this site.

My wife is a former Federal Prosecutor. I know how long her cases (far less important than Trump & Co.) took to complete. And that LAW & ORDER isn't how criminal justice works.
And since when does being able to speak your mind include not having anyone disagree?

(9,670 posts)I am also alarmed at the current state of affairs at the DOJ, where post-Trump partisanship is skewing the application of justice. If you believe that you can base today's assumptions on yesterday's practices, I would submit that you are living in the past and perhaps you trust in the process far too much.
Sorry. I am not the only one alarmed at the current state of affairs. I am joined by other Democrats, some former Senators, some current congresspersons, and most likely millions of other ordinary citizens who have watched the disintegration of our judicial system since 2017. We quietly bided our time while Robert Mueller gathered evidence, only to watch the entire investigation be quashed by the AG.
Damned straight I'm alarmed, damned straight I believe that James' silence COULD mean that nothing is happening. If I'm wrong, America wins, and I'll spread my apologies around DU accordingly.

(8,697 posts)I was posting about this on Twitter the moment the news broke. Like was all this trump pot-stiring and being all over the news just a springboard to a run at govenor?
I mean she was all over the news at first and then went silent.
News was talking about it and then nothing. Literally forgot it even happened.
We all got bamboozled. Hoodwinked. Fooled. Lied too.
We. Got. Screwed.
