Omicron Detected in at Least 5 U.S. States With More Expected

(Bloomberg) -- At least five U.S. states have reported omicron cases, with Hawaii joining New York late Thursday in saying the Covid-19 variant had been detected.
It also has been found in California, Colorado and Minnesota, which said that a resident who had traveled to an anime convention at Manhattans Javits Center tested positive.
New York state has identified at least five cases of the omicron variant, Governor Kathy Hochul said Thursday, with more infections expected as the new virus mutation circulates.
Two cases were found in people based in Queens, one was in Brooklyn, and another was in Long Islands Suffolk County, Hochul said at a briefing with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. The last case is suspected as a traveler who was in New York City.

(10,749 posts)Was the anime convention really that critical to attend? Critical enough to risk covid, even without the added threat of the newest variant?
And for the authorities: What actions are being taken to monitor Covid infections by attendees, etc.?
It's like we learned nothing from the initial onslaught last year.
