Woman removed from plane after bringing gun aboard

By DAVID KOENIG | Associated Press – 1 hr 32 mins ago

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A 65-year-old lawyer was arrested Wednesday for carrying a loaded handgun aboard an American Airlines jet at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

Judith Kenney was released later Wednesday on her own recognizance, said her attorney, Dallas lawyer David Finn.

Kenney carries a handgun for protection but had forgotten that it was in a computer bag she carried on board the plane, he said. She has no criminal history, he said.

Screeners at a security checkpoint had detected a gun in a woman's carry-on bag but she "picked up the bag and left the checkpoint before the screening process was over," said Greg Soule, a spokesman for the Transportation Security Administration, which operates the checkpoints. When TSA screeners spot a gun in a bag, they are supposed to seize the bag and notify police, he said.

(Note to Hosts: I think this is big news as it is the latest in a series of TSA debacles.)

1. Not really a surprise

The real surprise is she wasn't wearing it as a sidearm. I mean everyone in TX needs to be armed. I've been there and the idiots are so pervasive intelligent people do need to be armed for protection. I mean this is a state that elected Rick Perry. How the hell can you defend that?

What three departments are you going to cut again? Oh, oops, can't quite remember that last one.

What a tool.

I feel very safe here without it.

Oh, and I'm a Native Texan. Still here, too.

By the way, this is also the state that elected Ann Richards and gave the rest of the world the likes of Molly Ivins, Bill Moyers, Lloyd Bentsen, Barbara Jordan, and Bill Hicks. There are plenty more, of course, but this is just as a reminder to not make broad-brush attacks/bashing on states or regions here at DU

Of course, the TSA screener couldn't eat the handgun, so it wasn't snatched the way the cupcake was.

Not to be obvious, but how does someone manage to get a bag with a detected gun all the way to the plane? The explanation for this ought to be a doozy. Ungood.

"How dare the jack-booted thugs attack the second Amendment and take away our liberties by going after a gun on a plane. Next thing you know, they will be entering our homes and taking away our guns!"

Really, where are the paranoid, cowardly reactionary gun fetishists when we need them?

It's nice to know that planes are safe from the gun nuts, for now. And it's nice to know that no one want to take away our gun rights.

Peace,
Tex Shelters

...there area couple of posters at DU who take umbrage to the notion that there are no logical reasons for them to not carry on airplanes.
