Indiana Governor Signs Bill Eliminating Handgun Permits

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb signed into law Monday a bill eliminating the need for handgun permits, effectively making Indiana the 24th constitutional carry state in the nation.

Holcomb previously sidestepped giving his stance on the contentious bill, which was pushed through by Republican lawmakers but opposed by Indiana's top law enforcement official, county prosecutors and the state's police chiefs association.

In a statement following the signing Monday afternoon, Holcomb said "the Second Amendment has been debated for years, yet time and again our U.S. Supreme Court has reaffirmed this important constitutional right that I fully support."

"...HEA 1296, which I've signed today, entrusts Hoosiers who can lawfully carry a handgun to responsibly do so within our State," he added.

Carrying a concealed handgun without a valid reciprocal CPL in Michigan is a FELONY.

Open carry in MI isn’t a law, it’s a legal loophole and is only available to Michigan residents. Non-residents cannot open carry in MI. They must have a valid, reciprocal CPL from their state of residence.

If we flip the legislature this year, open carry will go bye bye, especially since the fiasco at the Capitol in 2020.

But you are right, open carry of handguns in the state is only allowed for MI residents. Out of state residents who wish to conceal a handgun here will continue to be required to have a valid CPL issued by their homestead.

Nonresidents can continue to open carry, where not prohibited, long guns without a permit. Guns longer then 30 inches. Like an AR-15 style rifle.

The Senate committee hearing on this bill went on for eight hours. Private citizens, advocacy groups, prosecutors, and cops all spoke out against this.

For nothing.

This is one glaring example of how having a supermajority in power can do great damage to society as a whole.

To be fair, though, even if Holcomb vetoed the bill, it would have been easily overridden, perhaps in a special session, because the General Assembly here knows what’s best, constituents be damned.

I really wish people would read and truly understand what the framers intended with the Second Amendment. It wasn’t this.

getting an amendment to the Constitution passed that gives the right to government to have reasonable methods in administering the ownership of guns.

Although, here in Denver, a group of demonstrators at a Black Lives Matter demonstration in 2020 who were attacked for their peaceful demonstration, are suing the Chief of Police and a large number of Denver Police for their actions towards the demonstrators.
All the people suing were injured or seriously injured by the outrageous actions of the DPD, one or two were maimed for life, one losing the eyesight in one of his eyes. Despite training and manufacturers specifications that large rubber bullets and tear gas canisters should not be aimed directly at the people in the crowd, the DPD was firing them at the faces of the demonstrators. They were able to identify a large bunch of the officers through video's of them attacking the peaceful crowd.
I also saw a video, where the Colorado State Patrol Troopers present, were actually trying to protect the crowd by getting between the DPD goon squad and the protestors and telling the people to turn their backs and run. The members of the State Patrol have always been a big notch above the common PD cops in my experiences with both..........

We will have to see how that large group's lawsuit progresses. It is amazing that the City Councils of Aurora and Denver just sit back and pay out tens of millions every year for their officers police brutality, especially towards minorities, and especially towards Blacks.

So I go into my Dr. for my quarterly physical/update. His assistant takes my BP when she comes in to up date my chart. Then he comes in and takes my BP first thing. He takes it again at about 15 minutes and again at the end of the 30 minute appointment.

Indiana is one of, I would argue the most, racist states in the upper midwest/great lakes area. When i was young we would joke that Indiana was a misplaced county of Alabama. I lived in the south for 20 years and and this state still is the most viscous brutally racist state I have ever lived in. Indianapolis has one of the most racist police departments in the country. Indiana's governor, along with it's senator, state legislature and especially local levels are equally as good at keeping their white christofacist agenda on the down low. This state reminds me of Russia. Most people never leave and they are fed evil generational bullshit, and are also propagandized a supposedly caring and centrist governor, whom at his core would happily pose for a handshake picture with Putrid himself.

This law being passed after several other states have already done so, and being passed within gunshot, pun intended, of November is no coincidence and atypical of the fucking political farce in this state.
