McCarthy says Russia 'probably' wouldn't have invaded Ukraine if Biden administration had sent arms

Source: Business Insider

McCarthy says Russia 'probably' wouldn't have invaded Ukraine if Biden administration had sent arms sooner

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Sunday suggested that the Biden administration was too slow in providing arms to Ukraine, arguing that if weaponry had been given to Kyiv sooner, then Russia "probably" wouldn't have invaded the country.

During an appearance on "Fox News Sunday," the California Republican told chief Washington correspondent Mike Emanuel that while the United States is not deploying troops to the country, the administration should have been more vigilant about sending weapons overseas.

"This is going to get stronger and rougher and what really needs to happen is, Ukraine is not asking for American men and women to fight, all they're asking for is the weapons to defend themselves," he said. "If we would have taken those actions earlier instead of waiting till after Russia invaded, they probably never would've invaded had we done that sooner."

McCarthy contended that if weapons had been transported to Ukraine earlier, then "thousands of lives" could have been spared.

TFG is definitely the one who wanted to write Ukraine off 'cause his buddy in Moscow wanted it.

Biden and our allies were quietly sending arms to Ukraine for weeks as troops and equipment were massing at their border and in Belarus. That's why those convoys were flattened on the way to Kyiv. The invasion might have come as a surprise to a lot of people, especially those in Ukraine, but it was no surprise to the US, the UK, or the Ukrainian military.

8. It's exactly Zelensky's claim
Sun Apr 17, 2022, 04:44 PM

that Western inaction killed Ukrainians.

When Putin sent "peacekeepers" into the Donbas to forestall a Ukrainian "Nazi" assault, NATO should have said, "Great idea, Putin. And there's no better way than to put peacekeepers in on the Nazi side, to monitor them and make sure they don't do something evil and fascist."

Zelensky might well have agreed to having 10k NATO "peacekeepers" along the border in the Donbas, and others elsewhere just in case.

Then in Putin said, "Get them out or I'll attack" we'd have said, "Wait, you mean it's not the Ukrainian Nazi threat that's the problem?? Because that's managed. But if you hurt NATO troops, peacefully doing their thing, then we have a problem with you."

Putin might have claimed provocations by NATO, but that would have led to a war with NATO proper.

Sad to see what has become of that program since she took it over. It used to do in depth reporting on several issues. Now it's just an establishment Republican talking points show. She is anti Trump, but promotes the talking points of the Cheney wing of the party.

but McCarthy is in a league of his own...this idiot knew Trump was a Putin puppet..he said as much to Paul Ryan.. "There's two people I think Putin pays, Rohrabacher and Trump..swear to God"..and Ryan's response was " This is off the record...no leaks..alright?"... that was in 2016..so ol' Kevin knew Trump was a traitor..he knew Trump attempted to shakedown Zelenskyy...withholding lethal aid in exchange for dirt on Joe and Hunter, and yet moron McCarthy voted no on Trump's first impeachment....it goes without saying McCarthy is a pandering Trump apologist whore taking instruction from the guy who sent a rampaging mob to the Capital to do whatever it took to hold on to power, and if that meant killing Pelosi, Pence, and every congressman/senator in the building that day, well, that's would have been an added bonus...and when Kevin implored Trump to call off the rabid dogs, Trump's response: "Well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about this election than you are"...so it begs the question "Is Kevin McCarthy the ultimate GOP dumb fuck?"...if he isn't, he should be

Pretty-easy to criticise with the benefit of hindsight from "Kevin both sides McCarthy". Of course there's nothing wrong with arming those fighting for democracy and freedom. Course RWNJs are the first to criticise such a policy if some of those weapons wind-up in enemy hands. Had Biden shipped weapons to Ukraine and Russia postponed invading Ukraine, the right would've claimed that Russia was never going to invade Ukraine in the-first-place. Their criticism then would've been all about President Biden, being a paranoid old man, etc... They'd have defended Putins right to have war games and train his troops on his own soil. The rights goal is in destroying the Biden administration anyway possible.

where it even helped to completely scramble any last vestiges of coherency in their party's raison d'etre at this point. - I.e., whatever Democrats say or do, then they are to say or do THE OPPOSITE. Even if it makes zero sense or contradicts some earlier policy position that they loudly espoused.

This meant, for example, that when Obama was promoting what was patterned off of the Heritage Foundation's health plan recommendations and was literally piloted as an expanded version of the GOP's "Romneycare", then since a "Democrat" advocated for it, it was "bad".

In essence, we watched as they eventually threw their god Raygun under the bus, they backed the bus up and ran over him again, and then shifted to forward, and ran over what was left.

They moved from "anti-Russia" -

to "pro-Russia" (2018)-

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, left, listens to Sen. Richard C. Shelby, third from right, during a meeting with Republican senators on July 3 in Moscow. (Alexander Zemlianichenko/AP)

They moved from neocon/pro-PNAC "World's Policemen 'promoting democracy around the world'" to rampant nationalism, and suddenly with gasbag McCarthy's latest, that position is reversing again.
