15 people joined suspected Buffalo shooter's Discord private chat shortly before the shooting
Source: CNN
At least 15 people joined suspected Buffalo shooter Payton Gendron's private account on the communications app Discord shortly before the shooting at the Tops Friendly Markets store, a person with knowledge of Discord's internal investigation told CNN.
A Discord spokesperson previously confirmed that Gendron had sent out an invitation to a small group of people to view his chat logs about 30 minutes before the violence.
"A private, invite-only server was created by the suspect to serve as a personal diary chat log," the Discord spokesperson told CNN on Tuesday. "Approximately 30 minutes prior to the attack, however, a small group of people were invited to and joined the server. Before that, our records indicate no other people saw the diary chat log in this private server."
After the suspected shooter invited people to join the server, his posts would have been accessible to invitees as well as anyone they may have shared access with, the spokesperson said. Discord removed the server and related content "as soon as" it was aware of it following the shooting, the spokesperson said.

(5,707 posts)From the OP's link:
In June, Gendron showed a warning sign of potential violence when he made a school project about murder-suicides when he was a student at Susquehanna Valley Central High School in Conklin, officials said.
Police were called to the school, and he was taken for a mental health evaluation and later released. At the time, police didnt seek a red flag order of protection against Gendron.
The red flag law, also known as the Extreme Risk Protection Order law, is designed to prevent anyone who shows signs of being a threat to themselves or others from purchasing a firearm, New Yorks website states.
Just in case you don't remember, here's the disassembled clock "incident."

(6,853 posts)Violence is secondary to these peoples craving for attention and validation. They all want to be the star of their own media broadcast. Attention is their drug, and they need a fix.
Its the result of a superficial, branding society. Nothing is real (or tragic), its all a reality TV show like TFG.
Until blood starts flowing then its all too real TV. Reality is real.

(12,410 posts)Otherwise they'll continue to get attention from prison. No more "writings" or statements from the grave.
But no, we'll put on a 2 week long show trial & let him spend a million dollars just for an obvious conclusion. And then let him sit in jail for decades being a hero to the losers.
Death is not an attraction to American radicals.

(25,911 posts)You obviously believe murder is wrong, yet you are advocating for a quick murder without due process.
And yeah, it's murder even if the State does it.

(12,410 posts)There is zero doubt that THIS man is the mass murderer.
Give his lawyers the grandstanding trail that he's constitutionally allowed to have, and then give him the needle. Then all the fanboys can see the finality of the grave instead of the publicity of the jail cell

(2,694 posts)We have to get them under supervision if they failed to make any effort to warn anyone. We have to move our legal system off the drug war and victimless crime and go after this type of danger with due process.

(134 posts)I understand the arguments that everyone was making. I really do. And they are right. But in this particular case, I just wish there was the exception. There is absolutely no doubt at all, period, that he was the person. Adding into that his "manifesto", the planning, the number of victims, and the fact that there will never be possibility that this is an innocent person or someone being executed for their race, I wouldn't even wait for the trial.
But he will get a trial, will be found guilty, and hopefully never gets a free day out of prison in his lifetime. And I certainly hope and pray that some type of justice is delivered in prison. I know that this view will also be controversial as people will say that type of thing should not happen. I will be the first to say they are better people than myself, and I can only wish the worst on this scumbag.

(12,410 posts)If someone is against the DP simply because they don't think it should be done, I can respect that opinion. But to constantly hear "But they could execute an innocent!" is frustrating. I've long supported making the law to where the DP can only be sought in cases like the Buffalo shooter. As you & I both correctly point out, there is ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT of guilt here. Or any of the other names I mention. And in many cases that aren't national news. ZERO doubt. There's no way it could be anyone else.
It is very likely to have some impact on those kinds of people if murderers like these are put down within 6 months of their cases being ended. No need for the endless appeals we see now, because there is NO question of guilt. No more spending millions to carry out the sentence. And many of these types of people have no problem living in prison. They don't care.
We'll probably never get what we want. And these types will keep living on our dime & filling our prisons.

(21,146 posts)is part of the problem. But there are other factors involved in what someone broadcasts for attention.
Some people get broadcast attention through humor, some by showing off skills like cooking, or thrills like handling dangerous animals, or through abilities in sports.
Something motivates mass murderers to choose killing instead of something else to get attention.
