Biden demanded action on Tuesday night in the wake of a school shooting that killed 18 young children and a teacher. But it’s unclear whether this will be another speech from another president that will be followed by little real action. Mr. Biden did not call for a specific vote or a specific policy, choosing instead to focus on the emotional moment for the country.

In his speech, President Biden asked the question that many people in the country are asking tonight: Why here? He said that other countries around the world do not have the same problem with mass shootings. “Why? Why are we willing to live with this carnage? Why do we keep letting this happen?” It’s a question he didn’t have an answer to.

8. Just May 24th 12 shootings before and 61 after Uvalde, TX

In the 12 shootings before Uvalde, Tx, 2 people were killed and 10 injured. After the musrders by gun in Uvalde, Tx, there were 61 shootings, with 16 deaths and 49 injuries. So just on May 24, 2022, there were 74 shootings listed on Gun Violence Archive, 39 deaths, and 66 injuries. That is 1 day. So far this year, an unbelievable 17,203 people have died from gunshots, another 14,262 have been injured.

I put the traffic fatalities stats in, just in case anyone is in the mood to equivocate, or compare bullets to black ice. I'm not. It is far past time to stop selling deadly weapons to assholes who think people are targets for their murderous outrages. Get a national db of gun sales. National db of background checks. Stop selling weapons to people under 24, JC, just stop selling guns. Obviously, there are too many people who get guns, not for protection, but for murder.

The big problem anti-gunners have with guns is that the gun can be used for both legal and illegal purposes. While the legal uses are 99% of the cases, the anti-gunners want to take the guns away from the legal users (an easy task) while not putting in the effort to disarm the illegal users (a hard task).

Yes, proper secured storage is a good thing. There needs to be a bigger social push for this like there was for discouraging drunk driving back in the 80s and 90s.

The background checks already happen. We just need more agencies feeding the system with the needed data.
