Kemp defeats Perdue in Georgia, a major blow to Trump

Source: The Hill

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) was projected to win his renomination for a second term on Tuesday, overcoming a primary challenge from former Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) and, by extension, former President Trump. ABC and NBC News both called the race for Kemp around 8:30 p.m. ET.

Kemp, a onetime ally of the former president, stirred Trump’s ire following the 2020 presidential election after he rebuffed his pleas to overturn President Biden’s electoral victory in Georgia. Trump vowed to campaign against Kemp, eventually persuading Perdue to enter the race for governor in hopes of ousting him.

But despite carrying Trump’s endorsement, Perdue struggled to gain traction among Georgia Republican voters. Polling in the run-up to the primary showed Kemp leading Perdue by double-digit margins.
Kemp’s victory on Tuesday dealt only the latest blow to Trump’s endorsing power, undermining the former president’s argument that he has the ability to pick winners and losers in GOP primaries, even in his post-presidency.

Apparently Jesus said, "I don't think so, Kandiss."

In other news, the other GA politician on Trump's shit list, Brad Raffensperger, is leading his closest rival by 14 points with 57% reporting, and we're probably going to have to put up with the troll for another two years.

I just ran into a former student of mine who came in a close 2nd to the Trump-endorsed candidate in a 7-way race for House of Representatives. As to the House, and the primaries conducted so far, he came closer to defeating the Trump-endorsed candidate than anyone else.

Until the Herbster (governor) loss in Nebraska, each of his senate, house, and gubernatorial endorsed candidates had won.

He certainly anticipated this race would be easier to win than it was.

With a few more days - my former student would likely have beaten the Trump endorsed candidate. He was recruited to run 60 days before the election by people trying to defeat the Trump endorsed candidate; she announced her intent to run last November. He had no political experience before. She outspent him by a factor of at least 4.

The Trump-endorsed candidate got 28.6% of the votes and he got 23.4% (in a 7-person race).

I'm proud of my former student (and several former students who helped run his campaign) for getting that close.

As Repulicans go, he's an old school Republican who believes in working out deals rather than just posturing. We'd disagree on a fair amount of economic policy - but we could have (and have had) good conversations even when we disagree.

If Hershel Walker loses, he'll really take a blow since Hershel is his hand-picked candidate. Trump is a pragmatist, and i suspect he'll tepidly endorse Kemp, while really throwing his weight behind Walker.

Since they're from the same state, if one of them loses, both of them are highly likely to lose. I doubt there will be many people that split their vote for Abrams and Walker, or that show up to no vote Kemp while supporting Walker.

They were not sufficiently pro-Trump and other excuses.

Trump hand picked Hershel Walker for the GA Senate seat. Trump's influence will really take a blow if Walker loses, so Trump will most likely go all out for Walker, and since they're from the same state, they're kind of tied at the hip.

Dave Perdue is just the puppet in Chump's little silly-ass game. Not that I care, but Perdue allowed himself to be used like a stupid asshole. He took part in primarying a sitting Governor, and that's something that Repukes just don't do. Well it used to be they didn't do it, until Chump had his temper tantrum.

Dave Perdue will probably have to move out of Georgia now. Not that I care.

Don't forget, it was because of Chump's fumbling miscalculations that the 2020 Georgia Senatorial Runoff went to 2 Democratic candidates - Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. Dave Perdue lost that one too.

The "red vote" turnout was off by a HUGE margin from the November totals. Because trump kept telling them "its rigged! Why bother?'
But none of them will blame HIM
