MO AG Eric Schmitt vows to sue any Missouri city, county that uses tax money on abortions
Source: KSHB
KANSAS CITY, Mo. Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt vowed Friday to file a lawsuit in the case of any city or county in Missouri using tax money on abortions.
In his reasoning, Schmitt cited RSMo. 188.205: It shall be unlawful for any public funds to be expended for the purpose of performing or assisting an abortion, not necessary to see the life of the mother, or for the purpose of encouraging or counseling a woman to have an abortion not necessary to save her life.
Schmitt specifically pointed out St. Louis and Kansas City, Missouri, as areas he is willing to file suit against.
Using hard-earned taxpayer dollars, whether it be ARPA funds or other forms of revenue, to fund abortions is plainly illegal under Missouri law. St. Louis City and County, and Kansas City, and any others who attempt to authorize taxpayer-funded abortions will be met with a lawsuit from the Missouri Attorney Generals Office, Schmitt said in a statement.

(22,100 posts)Everyone of these republican thugs are going to be preaching abortion this, abortion that, etc. when in the real world, abortion is like 10% of the issues voters concern themselves with. This is again repugs ignoring everything else and harping on one small area of concern to voters.
It's because they don't have a leg to stand on, on anything else.
Enforcing a law that already exists. How daring.

(18,119 posts)they would get rid of tax on food like they did in KS. As far as the roads in KC area, it seems like they are always working on the roads and bridges. Same with some of the suburbs.

(109 posts)are being delayed in Missouri because doctors are fearful or being prosecuted. I heard that on facebook and I do have a link to the article. https://truthout.org/articles/treatments-for-ectopic-pregnancies-in-missouri-are-delayed-due-to-trigger-law/

(16,357 posts)Stupid stuff like this is what happens when blockhead politicians who lack any real understanding of what they're making laws about enact vaguely worded legislation dictating what doctors are and are not allowed to do.
Sooner or later, SOMEONE is going to DIE because some doctor put off treating an ectopic pregnancy just a *little* too long, and the state will be hit with a huge wrongful death lawsuit and a ton of bad publicity. Which they will richly deserve, but that should never have to happen in the first place. And in the meantime, there is going to be untold suffering as a result of this idiocy, which should also never have to happen.
This is the sort of thing that women in many states now have to look forward to in the foreseeable future, thanks to the smug, simpering, autocratic majority that now controls what has become the U.S. Extreme Court. It. Makes. Me. SO. Angry.
