Boris Johnson and Liz Truss to vote against Sunak's NI Brexit deal

Source: BBC

Two former prime ministers, Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, are to vote against Rishi Sunak's new Brexit deal for Northern Ireland in a debate later.

Mr Johnson said the deal would either mean Northern Ireland remained tied to the EU, or the UK would not be able to take advantage of Brexit.

Ms Truss believes it would not resolve issues with a deal Mr Johnson struck with the EU in 2019.

Other Brexit-backing Tories are also expected to oppose the deal.

Sunak's plan looks like it would restore a hard border between NI and Ireland which is very bad.

Shout out to Boris's hair

opposes everything it seems. I've never believed they had good faith support for the Good Friday Agreement but rather saw it as a way to calm the situation and drag things on for years while more or less holding on to the status quo. Their statements over the recent years fits that scenario. Implementation of various aspects of the GFA like enhancements to education about the Irish language have been mostly blockaded by the DUP and when pushed to implement what they agreed to they walk away from Stormont and throw things back to the Tories in London to run the show. The situation regarding NI and Brexit was always a folly and only shows more and more the intractable position of the Brits trying to hang on to the 6 Counties.
