Jill Biden: It's time for men to step up for women's rights

WASHINGTON (AP) First lady Jill Biden on Wednesday used a Womens History Month event at the White House to call on men to step up and fight to protect womens rights.
The first lady, speaking ahead of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, didnt mince words as she lamented that women find themselves relitigating battles that we thought we had won a long time ago.
We need more men to hold each other accountable when women are being hurt or being left behind, she said.
The Supreme Court declared last June that states can ban abortion. Since then, Republican-controlled legislatures across the country have rolled out regulations shortening the period when a woman can get an abortion and otherwise restricting abortion access.

(11,560 posts)Men who truly care about women and girls need to step up. This is a human rights issue. Sitting on the sidelines speaks volumes.

(86,572 posts)Can't survive without us. They need to wise up and fast because the times of women being nice is OVER. We will be taking control of the bus and if it doesn't happen in a nice way, we'll do it in ways they are not going to like and will probably hurt. We will succeed because survival of our species does depend on women.

Can you tell I've had enough of life long subjugation?

(102,234 posts)Feminists have not limited their activism to women's rights, but LGBTQ, racial equity, and others. I have lived enough decades to know it does not always work in the other direction.
Power in numbers folks. We cannot allow our individual differences to divide us.

(1,686 posts)As a lifelong Democrat, and more importantly, lifelong womens advocate, I could not agree more with Dr. Jill Biden. I want my wife and daughter to have the same advantages that I have had throughout the years as a man. Also included in that thought is my granddaughter who is 15 and as time goes on I hope they dont have to put up with all the bullshit that men foisted upon them over the years.
My wife is a retired high-level GM with a major corporation, and my daughter is a high-level GS employee with the US government. They have encountered the usual amount of lack of help from men along the way and dealt with all the abuse, not dissimilar from our famous Orange Nazi, but along the same lines of difficulty dealing with wildly insecure men. It needs to stop. Our biggest issue that we have to deal with as Democrats is the lack of help from the Republican side of the aisle. They want to take us back with that MAGA bullshit and hopefully as elections go forward we get a lot more voters on our side to stop these assholes.

(1,824 posts)This is the message I have been saying at home. Only to be met with blank stares. Women are dying needlessly and good men say nothing. Make the calls, send the emails no matter how hopeless it feels. If you think these gestures are fruitless think how women feel when their physical lives are in danger. When their lives are out of their control! Yet
they still do the things
.
Thank you Jill. I need you! Tears here for the hopelessness I have felt.

(9,865 posts).....bring a case to SCOTUS that makes the punishment for a man not paying child support as draconian as the punishment put on woman who gets an abortion.
