Far-right extremist Riley Williams sentenced to 3 years in prison for storming Capitol on Jan. 6

Source: NBC News

WASHINGTON — A far-right extremist who was "obsessed" with white nationalist Nick Fuentes was sentenced Thursday to three years in prison for storming the U.S. Capitol and directing a mob toward the office of then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, where another rioter stole a laptop.

In delivering the sentence, U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson called Riley Williams' actions “utterly reprehensible.”

Williams, federal prosecutors argued at trial in November, "led an army" up a set of stairs toward Pelosi's office and was present when rioters swiped the laptop that the California Democrat kept in her conference room and used for “all her Zoom meetings."

Williams’ federal public defender Lori Ulrich said that while Williams might have “distasteful” beliefs, she was a young woman equipped with only a “cell phone and her fuzzy zebra bag” who even posted at one point that she was “STORMING THE WHITE HOUSE” when she was, in fact, in the legislative branch. Williams, her defense argued, “wanted to be somebody.”

This is the one who lead the mob to Nancy Pelosi's (Speaker of the House) office, where they trashed it and stole items.

And apparently as time went on since her arrest, there seemed to be some confusion about that laptop because during the trial and conviction, it was revealed that she recorded it being taken vs taking it -

Jan. 6 rioter who filmed Pelosi laptop theft jailed after jury convicts her on 6 counts

Nov. 21, 2022, 4:22 PM EST / Updated Nov. 21, 2022, 4:37 PM EST
By Ryan J. Reilly and Daniel Barnes

(snip)

Most of Williams’ actions weren’t really in dispute. But the government and defense differed on what charges Williams was guilty of. Her defense attorney conceded to the jury that Williams was guilty of two misdemeanor charges she faced, but argued that she did not assist in the theft of Pelosi’s laptop by verbally urging others to take the laptop and telling a man to use gloves when he handled it.

From the OP link -

(snip)

Williams was ultimately convicted on six counts: felony civil disorder, resisting and impeding certain officers, and four misdemeanor charges. The jury deadlocked on a count of obstruction of an official proceeding as well as on the question of whether Williams aided and abetted the theft of Pelosi’s laptop.

Such certainty becomes uncertainty. But that's why we have trial by jury and rule of law.

So many people seem to think that three years in a federal prison is nothing. That is three years of someone else telling you what to do which includes, when you eat, when you shower, what clothes you can wear, what you can read. The list goes on. You are now a convicted felon and you have to explain that on any job application and you have lost the right to vote. She fucked around and now she is paying the price.

I REALLY want to see a deterrence factor applied to these insurrectionists. SERIOUSLY.

One of those “teachable moments.” For the guilty and any of those assholes who may still want to try stunts like this, especially if they got stirred up into fake “patriotism” by hate radio and Pox Noise.

What they consciously and willingly - even eagerly - did that day was a crime and a sin and at least five people DIED. We must NEVER forget that.

it sounds like what my disabled friends go through living in a nursing home.

And given the lack of home health services, the sentence they are potentially facing is life.

And the only "crime" they've committed is having a serious disability.

More than 950 people have been charged in Jan. 6 Capitol riot, but investigation 'far from over'

Dinah Voyles Pulver and Doug Caruso USA TODAY

Which states have the most residents charged?

Florida leads by far with at least 104 accused or convicted rioters. The next closest are Texas with 77 and Pennsylvania with 75.

In terms of residents charged per capita, a few of the closest areas lead. Washington, D.C., tops the list with at least eight residents charged. Pennsylvania and Virginia are second and fourth with 75 and 43 respectively. Far-away Montana is third, with six.

They used to go to AZ for "no humidity" and to "help with allergies" but I don't hear that anymore.

And the best irony is that %-wise, PA comes in tied with some smaller states, for 3rd oldest but of the largest population states, is 2nd behind Florida.

Then too, her fiancee told the judge she's intent on becoming "a better Christian."

I worry for any children this couple might produce. Unlike their mom, their sentence will be life long.

is that she wound up in prison for three years and blighted her future in order to impress Fuentes, a far right Holocaust denier who says “women are goofy, okay, they should have no authority, they should have no authority over men” and women "just really have no business in politics", which will come as a surprise to say, Kari Lake, Elizabeth Dole, Margery Taylor Green, etc.

She was young and impressionable. That's not an excuse, but rather something to give some hope that she will take a better route when she's done serving her sentence. I have less hope for the older folks who should have known better.
