NJ Gov Says He'd Veto Gay Marriage Bill

By ANGELA DELLI SANTI and SAMANTHA HENRY Associated Press

TRENTON, N.J. January 24, 2012 (AP)
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Tuesday he'd veto a gay marriage bill if it reaches his desk, threatening to upend Democrats' efforts to push through the Legislature a bill legalizing the same-sex unions.

Christie told a town hall audience in Bridgewater that an issue of such magnitude deserves to be voted on by residents, and he urged Republican lawmakers to support a constitutional amendment that would appear on a statewide ballot. The Democratic Senate president swiftly condemned that idea, saying civil rights issues should not be subject to a vote.

"This is a huge societal change ... it needs a lot of consideration," the first-term Republican governor said during the event at a Jewish community center. "There are very passionate people on both sides, so let's have at it. Let them make their opinions known and I'll make mine known."

The question is whether the Fake Democrats like Jeff Van Drew will either stop the bill from passing at all, or vote to sustain the veto.

Try as I might, that just can't seem to resonate.

Why would you ask people to vote on something that first, doesn't concern them and second, is none of their business?

Just tell the 'no' voters that they don't have to get gay married if they don't want to. Problem solved.

I've read legions of books on the subject and they all appear to agree it has to do with the social expectations of the discriminator's peers. However, often times the same people who engage in discrimination against a group of people in public, will not engage in such behavior in private if they don't have peers who adhere to such discrimination to motivate their actions present.

It's not entirely unlike a bunch of HS kids picking on some kid who is not exactly like everyone else just because it's what all the other kids are doing. Then later being nice to the same kid when they know no one is going to see, and judge, their actions.

A lot of the actions of a society are. The real question is how and where do you apply pressure to shift the herd?

It's not like we can run around with a brigade of people armed with cattle prods poking the butts of every bigot we run across. Not that wouldn't be fun, and in may ways personally satisfying.

I get mob mentality when everyone is on the same page, like at a sporting event or something. What I don't get is the whole "opposite day" thing you mentioned from your studies. Thats really kinda fascinating.

Of course, I am certainly on board with the cattle prod concept. "Quit being a dick" *zap*
