Romney: "I Want to Help the 99 Percent"

Romney: "I Want to Help the 99 Percent"
7:31 PM, JAN 25, 2012 • BY JOHN MCCORMACK

After asking Mitt Romney twice whether the amount of taxes he paid was "fair," Univision host Jorge Ramos cut to the chase. "Governor, how much money do you have?"

"Well, you tell me and I'll tell you--I'm kidding," Romney replied, with a characteristic Romney chuckle. He said he'd already put that rough figure out in a financial disclosure forms, but Ramos wanted specifics. "Two hundred and fifty million?" he asked. "It's between 150 and 200 some odd million dollars," Romney finally replied. "I didn't inherit that money," he added.

During his appearrance at the candidates forum at Miami-Dade College, Romney deflected questions about his wealth by casting himself as the champion of average American workers. "I know what it takes to make America the most attractive place for jobs again," he said. "I want to do that not because I'm worried about the one percent. The 1 percent's doing fine. I want to help the 99 percent. I want to help middle-Americans get jobs that pay good wages."

As for the fairness of his tax rate, Romney said that "when you add together all the taxes and the charity, particularly in the last year, I think it reaches almost forty percent that I gave back to the community."

What charitable donations?! Why, he's referring to the millions that he's given to the Mormon Church, which they've used to take away my rights across the country.

That's Romney's idea of charity.

not as a condition of church membership - it's like saying pre-Vatican II Catholics were semi-vegetarians because they didn't eat meat on certain days.

"I didn't inherit it" - really? No step-up or advantages or connections from being the son of a governor of what was then a large and prosperous state? No one to give you that boost up to the first rung of the ladder? You really did it all by yourself?

Mitt Romney released his 2010 tax return on Monday. His total income for the year was listed as $21.6 million, more than one-half of which came from capital gains. How does that stack up against your income? Use this calculator to find out how long it would have taken Mitt Romney to earn the same amount of money.

Where's the "but"? "I want to help the 99% but...." You know there is a "but" in there. Like "but I won't change the tax laws that would help them" or "I won't support paying them unemployment so they can survive till they find work..." or "But I still want to do away social security" or "But I don't want anyone to have to give them health care..."

Something like that. There's always a "but" when a repuke says things like that.

snip: Earlier Thursday, it was disclosed that Romney and his wife, Ann Romney, failed to list an unknown amount of investment income from a variety of sources including a Swiss bank account on financial disclosure forms filed last year. His campaign said it was working to correct the omissions.

Gingrich also failed to report income from his 2010 tax return on his financial disclosure. The former Georgia congressman will amend his disclosure to show $252,500 in salary from one of his businesses, spokesman R.C. Hammond said.

This guy made millions sitting on his ass, and paid a fraction of taxes of what a normal worker did. The class war, waged by them silently, gives unfair advantages to the privileged. We can end privilege and we should. America does not want an aristocracy, we are too modern for that. We must become more democratic, more unified, not less.

I think that means you need to give all your money to someone like Doctors Without Borders, Remote Area Medical, or even the SPCA. But please, please, not a church, most have a bad reputation, and will spend the money on something evil, like denying the civil rights of gay people...

And then, Mr. Romney, you have to do actual work that makes the world a better place, to the best of your abilities...
