DENVERRelatives of the majority of people killed in a Colorado movie theatre rejected an invitation on Wednesday to attend its reopening this month, calling it a disgusting offer that came at a terrible time right after the first Christmas without their loved ones.
The parents, grandparents, cousins and widow of nine of the 12 people killed said they were asked to attend an evening of remembrance followed by a movie when the Aurora theatre reopens on Jan. 17. They released a letter sent to the theatres owner, Cinemark, in which they criticized the Plano, Texas-based company for not previously reaching out to them to offer condolences and refusing to meet with them without lawyers.
Our family members will never be on this earth with us again and a movie ticket and some token words from people who didnt care enough to reach out to us, nor respond when we reached out to them to talk, is appalling, the letter said.
Cinemark had no immediate comment.
The company announced last month that it would reopen the theatre on Jan. 17 and invite people affected by the attack and other guests, a move that Aurora officials said has strong support in the community. Gov. John Hickenlooper plans to attend.

if they want to turn it into a shrine then pony up the bucks and buy it.
not the theaters fault something bad happened there.
would they like to turn it down and turn it into a park??
perhaps but they also have to pay their bills.
it is sucky what happened but things have to move on eventually

(2,921 posts)As long as it's secured and it's a few months *PAST* the hysteria, I just might go back to that place - it's the closest theatre that has CaptiView - although I have not yet tried the Sony Googles, but I heard they are very heavy.

(8,879 posts)They should have reopened quietly without fanfare. I don't know how, but this was a ham-handed attempt at generating good will toward their business gone wrong.

(10,597 posts)...my ass. And Hickenlooper plans to attend? The man appears to be "not all there", if you know what I mean. I would demand that the theater be torn down and a monument to the victims be erected there. Who on God's earth would want to go into that theater again? If Cinemark insists on staying there, they should build a fortress theater somewhere across town with armed guards and metal detectors. I bet you they go out of business.
