Presidents Bush to Skip Obama Inaugural

Source: ABC News

Former President George W. Bush does not plan to attend President Obama’s second inauguration on Monday, joining his father, former President George H.W. Bush, among the living former presidents who are sending regrets, according to several officials with knowledge of inaugural planning.

The decisions mean Obama’s second oath of office will occur with only Democratic former presidents sharing the stage. Both former President Bill Clinton and former President Jimmy Carter plan on attending.

The younger President Bush is citing his father’s health in declining the invitation to attend, according to the officials. The older Bush, who is 88, was just released from the hospital this week after an extended illness.

Monday’s partial ex-presidential attendance will stand in contrast to Obama’s first inauguration, in 2009. All four living presidents attended that event – including, of course, President George W. Bush, who was turning the office over to Obama.

I read an article that said "Barbara Bush visits her husband most days and that GWB planned to visit his Father next week". I thought that this was a very strange statement since the article had the elder Bush in ICU and implied that he was in very serious condition. There was no mention that the younger Bush had been to visit his Dad recently, mentioning only that Barbara visited "most" days and that GWB intended to visit next week. I thought to myself, "he might not be alive next week with the way this article sounds", and that struck he as odd since I thought that they always seemed like a very close family. It's not like the younger Bush would have actually had to drive himself to Houston, since he has a secret service detail for life.

or lack the courage to seriously consider at this point in time? Just asking...

Deja Vu All Over Again and Again and Again and Again...ad infinitum:
The Kennedy family knows the truth about the JFK Assassination, and they know it wasn't Oswald who did the shooting. They just don't want another of their tribe to be murdered is why they don't go anywhere with the truth about JFK, RFK, and JFK Jr. There is Jackie's diary that's supposed to be published 50 yrs after the death of her last surviving child....She knew who killed her husband and that information is very likely in her diary.

Upcoming Movie on JFK Assassination: "Legacy of Secrecy"

DiCaprio to Produce and Star in 2013 JFK Assassination Movie. The movie is based on Lamar Waldron/Thom Hartman book's book. Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio is set to star in and produce a forthcoming movie centered around the assassination of JFK, the Washington Post has reported. The movie, which is based on the 2008 Lamar Waldron/Thom Hartman book, will see the actor play an FBI informant, Jack Van Laningham, helping the investigation into the murder of John F. Kennedy.
In the book, Laningham claims to have witnessed the confession of New Orleans Mafia boss Carlos "The Little Man" Marcello to the murder of President Kennedy. Film website FirstShowing.net has stated that DiCaprio was first shown the book by his father, and it is said to contain "new and recently declassified" information from both the National Archives and the FBI. "Apparently the confession came about after a dangerous and long-secret undercover operation, wherein the FBI positioned Van Laningham to become a confidant to Marcello, who ruled organized crime in Louisiana and most of Texas for decades. The 1979 House Select Committee on Assassinations said mobster Santo Trafficante and Marcello 'had the motive, means, and opportunity to assassinate President Kennedy.'" FirstShowing.net reports. The announcement for production of the film comes, coincidentally, 47 years ago to the day that President Kennedy was murdered.

"Legacy of Secrecy" is set to be released in 2013 -- 50 years after JFK’s death.

It's all those unwashed masses of every shade that he doesn't like to be around. He was pretty damn fond of Kindasleezzzy Rice, way more than they'll admit to.

Plenty of non-blacks who got screwed over by him, who hate his guts. I'm white, and if I was Bush, I wouldn't want to be within a thousand miles of me. That filthy-ass son of a bitch cost me my job, killed my career, and irreparably fucked up my life. And, there are millions more just like me, and if you don't think we're pissed, think again. If I was him, I wouldn't dare show my face in public for the rest of my miserable life.

I can understand his father, who just got out of the hospital, but is his dad's health that precarious he can't take one day to attend the Inauguration of the President?

Clinton and Carter attended both Bush inaugurations ... and I wouldn't be surprised if Gore did too (I know he did in '01).

It just doesn't make sense. He was well enough to leave the hospital, but the health is so serious that Dubya can't leave his bedside for 24 hours?

Yeah right.

28. Two months in a hospital...
Fri Jan 18, 2013, 09:28 PM
Jan 2013

...at his age is not an easy thing. He can probably barely walk. He looked pretty bad last time I saw a picture of him and that was before the hospitalization. He also suffered respiratory issues and was in ICU. The last thing in the world he needs is to be exposed to millions of people with the flu raging. He's probably on long term antibiotics also.

Leaving the hospital nowadays, for most people, doesn't mean much. They kick you out as soon as they can. If you can't handle being on your own, too bad. My mother was discharged in Feb. 2011 and couldn't even stand well enough to go to the bathroom by herself. They're wealthy enough for him to have nursing care at his home. Less time spent in a hospital means less time being exposed to hospital bacteria, which, nowadays, is not something you want to take home with you (I work in a hospital microbiology laboratory).

As far as junior not going, though, who knows? His dad could be a LOT worse off than the family letting on to the news media. OR, he just doesn't want to go.

Do we really need him/them there? My answer is...NO.

The absolute last thing they needed was a physical reminder of what happened to this country the last time a pampered, petulant, former frat boy Repug was President, especially given that the lion's share of Romney's policies were Dubya retreads.

I'm sure that, given the chance, the GOP would've kept him locked in a closet during the run-up to the election in hopes they could just pretend his presidency never happened.

GHWB has been in declining health such that I would not expect him to attend. GWB may or may not be engaged in the care for his father.

This 2nd inauguration, while important, doesn't have the same powerful novelty that the 2009 one did.

I would just accept the Bushes are not coming and since they are the last living GOP Presidents we leave it to Carter (pre-dates Reagan who is dead) and Clinton to attend.
