Senate Democrats declared victory in their standoff with Republicans over raising the debt limit at a press conference Wednesday, saying the GOP's vote to extend Treasury's borrowing authority another three months sets a precedent that the debt limit will not be used to extract deep spending cuts.

"The vote in the House of Representatives sets an important precedent going forward," Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) said.

Schumer: GOP In ‘Full Retreat’ On Debt Limit

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) hailed House Republicans' upcoming vote on postpone the debt limit a victory for Democrats and President Obama, at a press conference Wednesday.

The vote shows that Republicans are in "full retreat" on fiscal policy issues, Schumer said.

Schumer joked that the House GOP retreat last week had had a calming effect on Republicans. "Maybe there were deep breathing exercises," Schumer said, or "soft jazz muzak."

1. unfortunately, "full retreat", no. "STRATEGIC retreat".

FULL retreat would be giving up the whole debt ceiling concept.

all they've done was agree to delay the day of reckoning a few months when they hope the political climate for their usual mayhem will be more favorable.

language in it, that requires the democrats to submit a budget by a certin date, or their pay will be suspended. For some reason the Dems have not wanted to or could not move on a budget . So, it may be a bittersweet victory

3. So you want Senate Dems to pass a Republican House budget?

Because that is what this is about. The budget originates in the House. Normally, of course, the House and Senate work out a compromise between them. But this House refuses to talk to the Senate. Instead, they put together a 100% Republican budget with zero compromise and are now using that to pretend that it is all the Senate's fault.

Some Americans are actually stupid enough to fall for that idiocy. Fortunately, only very few.

Which has the added benefit of having been roundly rejected by voters when they utterly rejected him as VP.
