Tancredo Backs Out Of Bet To Smoke Pot

Source: TPM

NICK MARTIN 7:04 PM EST, SATURDAY JANUARY 26, 2013

Ex-Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO) on Friday backed out of his bet to smoke pot if Colorado legalized the drug for recreational use, saying that going through with it would have set a bad example for his grandchildren.

The immigration hardliner had promised a promotional filmmaker that although he did not partake in drugs he would give marijuana a try if voters in the state passed Amendment 64, which was designed to legalize pot for recreational use. The measure passed in November, and Tancredo said this week he would make good on his promise.

But in an email posted Friday by Denver television station KUSA, Tancredo said he was going to “welch” on his bet.

From the email:

I am especially concerned that the publicity may cause my grandkids to have to justify my actions to their peers and afraid that no matter how many times I say I am NOT condoning the use of marijuana, that that message will not get through. My grandchildren are extremely precious to me and I would never want to do anything that puts them in a difficult situation.

That is why I have a fantasy to hot box a full session of congress and keep them in the Capital to watch Oliver Stone and Michael Moore and Michael Parente documentaries for a minimum of one week.
Now that would be an education system...

To be closely tied to a public figure who cannot see past his public image to prove there is no lie greater than a Big Lie.

I'm a booze drinker,an occasional pot smoker, and an ex cig smoker. None of these habits have ever made me healthier, wealthier, or wiser. They are just a recreation that I enjoy, but I don't encourage any of them to my grand kids. I've never smoked or been drunk in their presence and I don't consider this as "lying" to them.

I do talk to my grand kids about being kind and helpful and truthful and praise and encourage those qualities.

I have no doubt that they will develop their own bad habits without my help.

I'm no fan of Tancredo in any way, shape or form, but in this case I won't judge him.
