(Mass.) Special Senate election to be held June 25
Source: Boston Globe
Secretary of State William F. Galvin, said today that the special election to fill John F. Kerrys Senate seat will take place June 25, with a primary set for April 30.
Galvin said his decision about the date was based on a conversation with the secretary of the Senate in Washington. Galvin recommended the June 25 date to Governor Deval Patrick, who has the final say, and is expected to sign off on it.
Kerry, who breezed through a confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee last week, is expected to submit his resignation Tuesday just before the full Senate votes on his nomination.
Galvin said he will make Senate nomination papers available as quickly as possible this week. Candidates have four weeks to gather 10,000 certified voter signatures for their names to appear on their partys primary ballot.

(11,464 posts)Did they pick this time for minimal voters around?
We all know who votes when there are minimal voters around.
Schools out for the summer and report cards distributed June 18th in Boston.
And so are the voters.
the news keeps getting worse and worse and worse.
How many people are 100% confident that a democratic candidate will win this race?
and win the regular 2014 senate, and regular governor race in 2014.(Patrick is not running).

(85 posts)Never 100% confident in anything, but the Dem machine is not staying home this special election, we're already gearing up for this one.
Word is that Brown would rather run for Gov (although he has less business being Gov than he did Senator) in 2014, but he has filed to run for Senate in 2014. He probably thinks he has a better chance of being Gov given our history with GOP govs in the state, but we'll just have to see.
He has a record, he's made a lot of stupid statements (I talk to kings and queens as the time, etc), and that barn coat and truck gimmick has been done to death.
We'll have to wait and see... but work our arses off to keep him home cleaning out his garage. (Reference to the fact that he's now Facebooking like a 12 year old and in one complains that Gail made him clean the garage although he had to think about it.)

(59,475 posts)especially when he said that he had to clean the garage or Gail would not speak t him. He followed that by saying that he thought about that - and cleaned the garage anyway. That was really strange.
That and tweeting "whatever" to anyone who said they were not for him.

(31,962 posts)Massachusetts allows voters to vote by absentee ballot if they:
will be absent from your city or town on election day, and/or
have a physical disability that prevents your voting at the polling
place, and/or
cannot vote at the polls due to religious beliefs.
You may have an absentee ballot mailed to you or you may vote at your city or town hall by making arrangements with your local election official.
