Former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney candidate for Detroit's emergency financial manager?

Source: ABC channel 7 WXYZ news

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Since Governor Snyder proclaimed Detroit is in a financial emergency Friday, only one name has surfaced as a possible emergency financial manager.

Could a man that last ran for president be Detroit's EFM?

"I do have a top candidate and we do have additional people that could serve that role," said Governor Snyder. "The top candidate's outstanding," he continued about the mystery person.

At least two political commentators speculate former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney may be Detroit's EFM. Washington Post opinion writer Charles Lane suggested Romeny would be a good choice after turning around a number of businesses and citing Romney's Detroit roots and his availability.

I don't think Romney would be a good choice at all but just out of curiosity, how much more fucked can Detroit get at this point?

I actually think Mayor Dave Bing would probably be the best choice, at least he has a popular mandate from the local electorate and unlike his predecessors in that office, has not shown any signs of corruption or malfeasance.

In all seriousness, what actual work has Mitt ever done?
He is pampered, sheltered and lazy.

His dismal campaign (one he never could have won anyhow), but he ran the worst campaign even worse than Mike Dukakis(coincidentally both from Mass.)

He did not bother to do the grunt work. He did not bother figuring out the get out the vote.

He did nothing.

And why give him a forum anyhow?

Wonder who is floating this? And why? Could it be Mitt himself?

And who are the residents of Detroit? Aren't they the people Mitt blames for his loss?
I wouldn't trust him in this.
But he is too lazy to do it.

Hey, why not let another lazy person who lost big time have this job.
Supposedly he was a former friend of the auto industry. And at one time Democratic Party people liked him.
Why not give old Ralphie a call and let him actually do SOMETHING respectable working within.

The city has already cut everything there is to cut...laid off pretty much anyone who was working for it-how much more vengeance does white Michigan want to inflict on Detroit for committing the horrible crime of not electing Caucasians as mayor anymore?

Take huge amounts of money for his services, get all kinds of "government" funds and bailouts, fire all the employes, dump their pension plans on the government, then sell it to the highest bidder while he takes all the loot and puts it in some offshore bank account!

His cost-benefit analysis certainly can't be looking good, unless all he wants is just whatever cushy six-figure salary an "EFM" gets from the taxpayers.

Then again, I can't help but think that such an up-yours-in-your-face act by the governor might be the final straw that leads to mass protest/uprising. I'd like to think that he wouldn't dare, but I know he would. And he'd relish every minute of giving the big screw-you to the pesky citizens who have opposed his kleptocracy.

what the GOP wants for the country. No elections just appoint who they want. Detroit's elective people jobs have been stripped and the Communist Guv and his GOPpers minions have put in their own so called city or town's managers. It wouldn't surprise me in 2014 that the GOPpers in Michigan don't conduct elections and just appoint themselves as rulers.

It is so true, Iliyah. These guys are the dictators they are warning us about! Repub governors are the worst. I hope that the Michiganders wake up and fight before it's too late. If they get the rest of the state...we will need a passport and alot of cash to go into the state. All roads will become toll roads. Of course nobody will ever want to go there again.

of Detroit should reject him and dare the Governor to do something about it. They do not have to go along with the Governor. The citizens of Detroit need to stand up for their rights period. It should be up to them. The Governor is no King either. The City of Detroit has elected officials also and they should govern themselves. They should hold a special meeting and hear from the citizens of Detroit. I think they should hold a referendum, and if the citizens of Detroit do not agree with the the tyranny of the Governor, they should send him a message. I would certainly dare this Governor to act. The police forces of Detroit is supposed to be controled by the City of Detroit. They have it within their power to confront him. He maybe in charge of the State police, but he is not in charge of the municipal police. Then you would have the Federal Government move in, and make the decision. I think the Governor is wrong and will lose if it came to that confrontation.

13. Romney also bankrupted a number of businesses
Mon Mar 4, 2013, 10:09 PM
Mar 2013

This is a serious question that needs to be answered by Republicans: Once Romney started doing leveraged buyouts, is there one company Bain got its hands on that was better off after they were done with it? And don't mention Staples because Staples wasn't an LBO, it was Venture Capital funding.

Romney's method of turning around businesses won't work with Detroit (come to think of it, it doesn't work very well on businesses) for a couple of reasons, chief among them there's nothing to sell and everyone who could possibly be fired already has been.

If Romney were appointed and they didn't want him to be seen as failing, might they provide the assistance to Detroit that they should have been providing all along?

It seems more likely, though, that Romney just wouldn't want to do it. There's nothing in it for him.

should ignore anything he says, just like he isn't there and let the Governor do something about it. The people don't have to abide by anything the Governor says. Call his bluff and let him send in the national guard. I wouldn't pay any taxes the Governor approves either. He is no king, just like they claim the President isn't. Call the Feds in to settle the issue just like they did to George Wallace. If they can call for Democracy in Egypt, they can call for Democracy in Detroit. The people of Detroit should decide their own affairs and not force to abide by the wishes of one man. If I was the mayor and city council, I would definately push the envelope with this Governor. People are already angry about what he did to Union Rights. At some point they need to make a stand against this man. Why not now? I think he will lose.

It's a struggle on all fronts here in Michigan with the Koch's afp and our own Devos family pouring money into all the right-wing poster girls.

Check out mlive.com and play whack-a-mole with some pretty clearly paid shills for those folks. A purely unsubstantiated accusation, of course. But there sure are a lot of quacking ducks.

I born and grew up in Detroit until white flight took our family to the burbs along with business base that has left Detroit trying to govern under economic distress since the seventies. All they have left is the water supply and a tax base in the core downtown area.

A tragedy being milked for its last drop by the new dictator of the oligarchy.
