Dems suggest Cornyn fabricated border claim. "Who's your mysterious' friend'?" they taunt.

Source: Dallas Morning News

WASHINGTON — With nearly two weeks passed since Sen. John Cornyn told tens of thousands of Twitter followers that a friend is seeing 300 illegal border crossings per night on his South Texas property, Democrats are demanding details — or a confession that “he’s simply making stuff up.”

“Who’s Your Mysterious `Friend’ John Cornyn?’” the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee wrote in a taunting email this morning to news outlets, putting a spotlight on Cornyn’s as-yet unsubstantiated claim.

As we have reported, 300 crossings per night – or nearly 110,000 per year – would be a staggering number. U.S. Customs and Border Protection stopped about 365,000 people trying to cross into the U.S. in 2012 without permission, almost half of them in Texas.

Cornyn is the deputy Senate GOP leader, and the DMN has asked him and his office to identify the friend, the site of the border incursions or any other sort of substantiation. They have declined. (More here and here.) A border breach of this magnitude would raise serious concerns about security and would undermine Obama administration claims about the success of federal efforts along the border. That would have implications for the immigration debate.

Typical right wing "some people say" scare tactics. Republicans, especially the ones here in Texas, love to tell fibs about poor people and people of color. Cornyn needs a gig at Fox News. What an asshole.

He will never provide an answer. None of the GOPers ever have any intent of backing up their bullshit claims with any proof. They will just repeat the same claim over and over. If that does not work they'll double down with something even more absurd. Business as usual here in Texas (and around the country). Start looking for Texas to really ramp up the 'stupid' now that Cruz is on the scene.

party challenge in the primary. That makes it time for the scary 'the border is out of control' stories to start up. One can assume that more anti-immigrant, pro-tea party stories will be forthcoming: immigrants are all on welfare, their children are a burden, they want 'amnesty', 'self-deportation', etc.

This seems a little early in the election cycle for a senator to be thinking only of his primary fight ahead, but he is a conservative politician whose main concern it retaining power rather than achieving anything. And in Texas the primary is his chief concern, not the general election.

she's ever seen on it is our cousin, Ornelo. What is it with Cornyn anyway? I thought these Rethugs were big on guns and guarding their property. If that's the case, you'd think the NRA would be all over this as an example of why Americans should arm themselves to the teeth. Bunch of nimrods.
