Dewine Weighs Steubenville Charges

Source: Toledo Blade

As soon as the visiting judge delivers verdicts in next week’s rape trial of two Steubenville high school football players, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine will announce whether prosecutions will be expanded to include others who may have witnessed what happened and did nothing to stop it.

Mr. DeWine, whose office is handling the prosecutions, said Monday he will hold a news conference in Steubenville to announce his decision.

The attorney general met in his office for about 30 minutes with a dozen people delivering petitions to urge him to file charges against Michael Nodianos, 18, of Steubenville, the subject of a 12-minute YouTube video in which he talked and laughed about the incident hours after it occurred.

Mr. DeWine declined to specifically discuss charges in connection with the video, but he addressed the issue that has sparked national debate — whether a culture exists in Steubenville and elsewhere in which sexual assault is tolerated and even joked about.

The only reason this potential prosecution is happening is because the Internet community made it so.

Give DeWine reasons to prosecute. Legal reasons, PR reasons, re-election reasons, whatever it takes: http://ohioattorneygeneral.gov and go to the contact page.

If it is accessory after the fact it seems like they are going to have to charge a whole lot of people in the town with the same thing.

go look at the YouTube comments over at this Young Turks video analyzing the controversy over Daniel Tosh's "wouldn't it be funny if that girl were raped by like five guys right now?" response to a woman who heckled him. Pretty much all of Tosh's ignorant teenager and "man" fans have run in just saying "yap yap yap yap it's just a joke anything can be funny free speech yap yap" repeatedly as if they all copy and paste each other's comments, virtual high-fives pretty much. And then consider the Steubenville video. Makes me want to quit living in America and leave it to the rape apologists and misogynist theocrat scumbags and create a better nation that actually respects women.
