Colbert Busch Highlights Business Experience In First Campaign Ad

Source: TPM

Elizabeth Colbert Busch, a Democratic candidate for U.S. House in South Carolina's First District and the sister of comedian Stephen Colbert, hit the airwaves on Thursday in her first campaign ad that touts her experience as a job creator.

"You always hear about the jobs that we lose to foreign trade. I'm Elizabeth Colbert Busch, and from intern to director of sales and marketing at a shipping company to the director of business development at the former Naval shipyard, I've spent 20 years using our ports to create jobs selling American products made by American workers," she said in the spot.

and progressives/liberals should thank their lucky stars if she is elected in South Carolina.

ETA: I don't have any idea of her stance on such things as I haven't delved into them, but the above is just a general statement about being realistic and pragmatic.

I would much rather a real Democrat be in the office then another DINO that votes against anything Democratic so as not to offend the mythical "moderate republican".

As a Democratic living in Beaufort County SC, I will be working for her campaign and will be working a phone bank next week. The simple fact is that virtually any Democrat will be better than the type of Republicans who get into office down here.
This is Joe (you lie!) Wilson territory. She's educated, probably enough of a centrist to get a few GOP votes. Maybe no political experience will be to her benefit.

And although she tends to be more pragmatic/tactical and less purist than I am, I'm pretty well satisfied from the campaign literature, phone scripts (which are all over my living room ), and general word of mouth that Colbert-Busch is the real deal. I'm very hopeful!

....it's extra encouraging to read that while looking at an avatar of the last Democrat to win South Carolina!

And I mean that, too. I went camping with my cub scout last week and had occasion to drive through some rural neighborhoods that were obviously dirt poor but nevertheless had all these Republican signs by the side of the road. I want to shake these people and say "what exactly are you getting?? Is ensuring oil subsidies and offshore tax havens are protected REALLY helping you out??"

I was actually pretty upset by it. These neighborhoods with their trailers, run-down station wagons, etc. still trip my California boy ass out, since it's a completely different face of poverty than I saw so much of out west. My favorite signs are the ones that just say "[candidate name]. Conservative. Republican." like that alone is a sufficient selling point. But back on point: SC-1 really ought to be winnable, if only because so many northerners have moved here. I sincerely don't understand why SC isn't a blue state, given the economic reality of the place, but I'll take what I can get in the mean time!

And I have to say this: If anyone is looking to volunteer in Charleston County, please feel free to PM me. I don't know a damn thing, but I can most definitely put you in touch with the right person!

All I care about is the three P's. Your Positions, your Plan and, when applicable, your past Performance.

I would vote for a purely political academic before someone claiming business experience as a qualification.

That said, I suspect Colbert-Busch is trying to draw off some of SC's large idiot vote, as most Dems are already likely to vote for her.

I hope she wins, though.
