Cops: Pa. Guard Shot Finger Trying to Remove Ring

Source: NY Times

BRADFORD, Pa. (AP) — Police have charged a federal prison guard with shooting his own finger in a drunken attempt to remove his wedding ring at his northwestern Pennsylvania home.

Online court records don't list an attorney for 31-year-old Alfredo Malespini III, of Bradford, who was wounded in the March 2 incident.

The Bradford Era (http://bit.ly/15QwzSV ) reports police were called to Malespini's home and found him with a bloody finger, after which he told them he was "trying to get rid of his wedding ring" and decided to "shoot it off." Police say the attempt badly mangled Malespini's finger, but didn't remove the ring.

The article states that he will be given mental health treatment, and that "online court records show he's yet to be arraigned". I wonder what the exact charges would be?

1) It's more cool to carry a handgun now in certain parts of the country (20 years ago, people in the country carried them to shoot coyotes and rattlesnakes, now it's to shoot themselves and posters).

2) The Internet makes it easier to see dipshits shooting themselves.

All the time, people will tell me about the multiple uses that guns have, but no one can ever actually mention any. Are guns for removing rings, and this guy just did it wrong?
