Argentina's Kirchner raises Falklands with Pope Francis

Source: BBC News

Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner says she has asked for the Pope's intervention in the Falklands dispute between her country and the UK.

Visiting the Vatican, Mrs Kirchner said she had asked the Pope to promote dialogue between the two sides.

BBC and AFP have this as breaking news despite the fact The Mail had it last week.

Argentina’s president wastes no time in urging new Pope to intervene in Falklands dispute, calling on him to make ‘major world powers participate in dialogue’

1,513 were in favour, while just three votes were against. That's as good as 100% in favour of staying as is.

its was a staggeringly overwhelming vote by the people. Will another military engagement be necessary?

to distract the people from an economic mess. That's what triggered the Falkland Islands war in the 1980's and it's the same dreck now.

7. The U.K. will pay attention to the Pope? LOL.

U.K. is mostly secular, nominally Protestant, a few Catholics. They will make a diplomatic response that says, "Fuck off." in very polite terms.

The Falklands people recently voted, as noted above by another poster, and they want to stay with the U.K. If Argentina wants the Falklands, let them buy the islands from the residents. About five billion would be enough to make all the islanders rich. As part of the sale they have to leave the islands, just as when you sell your house you have to move out.

Of course, if the islanders don't want to sell, then Argentina is out of luck.

geological surveys had shown there might be up to 60 billion barrels (9.5 billion cubic metres) of oil under the seabed surrounding the islands.

There's an extreme self-righteous tendency to claim that the upper limit of what's possible isn't just the upper limit of what's possible but what's real.

It happens all over.

Job creation.

Multiplier.

Confirmation bias is everything; critical thinking, nothing.

Argentina needs to get over it w/r/t the Falklands. They were never part of Argentina, and never will be.

Maybe the Argentinian government should ask me to intervene. That's about the same difference. Or maybe Dennis Rodman.

Is too busy telling everyone about his kind, wonderful, amazing best friend Kim Jong Un. Maybe Kirchner can kill a couple of million people. Then Dennis can take her to a basketball game and become his best friend.

Oh wait. Nevermind.

I recall things didn't work out quite so well for the last Pope that tried that...
