Make My Day Law for Business Advances in Colorado

takes pride in its Western entrepreneurial spirit and that extends to the belief of some lawmakers that business owners should be able to use deadly force against anyone who tries to take what's theirs.
It's an idea that conjures Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry, and its supporters have taken liberties with the hardboiled character's famous line in naming their measure "Make My Day Better."
The state already has a law that allows people in homes to gun down invaders, and the bill's sponsor, Republican state Rep. Chris Holbert, is asking lawmakers to weigh: "Are you worth somehow less in the workplace than you are in your residence?"
Opponents, including some in law enforcement, consider the plan an overreach.

(3,156 posts)i know someone who shot and killed someone under CO's Make My Day law. turns out the person he shot was a innocent drunk college kid. it did not make anybody's day better. i suspect it ranks up there as one of the worst days of his life.

There will still be an investigation. If criminal conduct on the part of the defendee is found, prosecution will procede. If no apparent criminal conduct found, defender is innocent and can not be found liable for any actions in response to actions of the criminal.

(10,136 posts)Rep. Levy obviously did not read the bill prior to spewing nonsense about it.
The reporter Moreno obviously did no research on it.
The AP obviously has no fact checkers on staff any more.
