CNN, Fox News, MSNBC Air Name Of Steubenville Rape Victim

Source: HuffPost

CNN, Fox News and MSNBC recently aired the name of the underage victim in the Steubenville rape trial during reports about the case.

Two high school football players were found guilty of raping a 16-year old girl in a controversial case in Steubenville, Ohio. The verdict was handed down on Sunday.

All three cable news networks aired a clip of one of the defendants, Trent Mays, apologizing to the victim in the courtroom. Mays had addressed the victim by name, which was not censored during CNN and MSNBC's broadcasts on Sunday and Fox News' broadcast on Monday. Local CBS affiliate WTRF also aired the clip without editing the victim's name out.

The U.S. Supreme Court's has ruled twice in these cases. In both Florida Star v. B.J.F and in Cox Broadcasting Corporation v. Cohn the court ruled unconstitutional a Florida and Georgia statutes that imposed civil liability on media for publishing a rape victim's name. They said it was a violation of the First amendment.

be defined by this incident, and said her name, so I don't think they were trying to keep her name quiet.

They want to discourage women from pressing charges when they are raped, particularly when the rapist is an athlete or someone else "important".

that main stream media has failed in a huge way.

If there was any doubt that there is a war on women, this now shows that media is in collusion in that war.
