WSJ: U.S. Fears Iran's Links to al Qaeda

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Red Herring flies again!

"The assertions are likely to amplify tensions between Washington and Tehran. A Senate committee on Thursday moved to intensify sanctions to force Iran into negotiations on its nuclear program, while Tehran has largely defied pressure. This week, Iran prevented U.N. nuclear inspectors from gaining access to sites and scientists, according to diplomats."

Iran helping al Qaeda? War "hysteria" builds

Reported concerns among some U.S. officials that Iran may have essentially freed a group of al Qaeda militants held for almost a decade under house arrest in the Islamic Republic are adding Friday morning to the escalating war-rhetoric pouring out of Washington and Israel.

According to The Wall Street Journal, some government officials believe Iran's move to allow the men greater freedom - which may include permission to leave the country - suggests the nation's hardline rulers are trying to bolster a link between themselves and the radical Muslim terror group as Western pressure mounts on both entities.

The report is particularly disconcerting as it follows closely on the heels of America's intelligence chief James Clapper warning U.S. lawmakers that Iran is, "more willing to conduct an attack in the United States" as sanctions hit its economy and talk of Israel attacking its military and nuclear installations gains volume.

<snip>

But the war rhetoric is getting louder. U.S. defense chief Leon Panetta believes, says CBS News national security correspondent David Martin, there's a strong likelihood Israel could strike Iran as early as April if diplomatic pressure fails to convince the Iranians to reveal - and dramatically reign-in - their controversial and secretive nuclear work.

You should know what's being put out there.
"Unrec" the story, fine, but don't kill the messenger.

I really think they need to stop with the Sabre rattling about Iran. This is a waste of time.

13. rather than eloquently say how much this is nonsense, let me quote al-Qai'dah itself

from a recent article on an al-Qai'dah-sympathetic forum entitled "Between Shiah, West and Global Jihad: Dilemma of Arab Future":

"Iran vs Al-Qaeda and Global Jihadis"
The series of trials that Allah gives to the Islamic ummah in order to elevate its status, turns out to have come in turn very quickly. When Al-Qaeda and the activists of global jihad are being tested in terms of their resilience, by fighting against the world superpower - America - in several places at once, the Shiahs with the support of Iran are already writhing.

The Shiahs and Iran are ready to wait to be the next enemy after the collapse of America and its coalitions. Around 10 or 20 years from now, Iran with its Shiah will be far more stronger than now. Its feet will be set firmer in some regions.

...and later in the piece, the author continues:
Sooner or later, the big battle between the global Mujahideen against Iran will erupt. Because, after America has weakened, Iran has to be cleaned out from the Middle East.

I shall of course inform them that the Wall Street Journal believes otherwise, so that they can promptly fall in line with current US-Israeli propaganda dispatches.
