Live blog: Gunman on University of Arizona campus

Police have converged on the University of Arizona campus this afternoon after a report of a man with a gun. Shortly before 6 p.m., the UA issued a second emergency alert text saying the Administration Building was being evacuated immediately. Police were inside the Administration Building, the alert said.

An alert was sent to subscribers of UAlert which read, "Man with a gun Report of a man w/ a rifle in the Administration Bldg. UAPD on scene. Stay away from the area."

Another UAlert sent just before 6 p.m. says that the Admin building is being evacuated through the second floor lobby doors. UAPD are in the building.

... There are 20-30 police cars in the area and a helicopter is overhead.

We can confirm that some greek houses are on lockdown.

6:27 p.m.: A call came into UAPD through 911 at 4:52 p.m. There was a report of a man with a rifle inside of theAdministration Building. UAPD and TPD jointly responded and secured the area. The Administration Building has been evacuated. Modern Languages also has been evacuated as a precaution. People are advised to stay away from that area, and we’re using our UAlert and other communications systems to keep the community informed of the situation.

it is the tallest building on campus, similar to the UT Austin clocktower.
