Walker Blames Sluggish Wisconsin Job Growth On 2011 Union Protests

Source: TPM

IGOR BOBIC 4:20 PM EDT, FRIDAY MARCH 29, 2013

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) on Friday blamed the state's sluggish job growth on "uncertainty" due to the mass-union protests triggered when his administration essentially ended collective bargaining for most public employees in 2011.

"The first year we had a lot of protests in the state," Walker said, according to the Journal Sentinel. "We had two years', almost, worth of recalls. A lot of employers here I think can relate to the fact (that) uncertainty is one of the biggest challenges for employers big or small or anywhere in between. There was a lot of uncertainty. The good news is that's passed."

Also, for a party that talks about "personal responsibility", they sure blame others for Republican failures a lot.

The uncertainty was thrust upon the workers fired by Walker and not knowing how they were going to be able to make the house payment. The cause was Walkers own actions, including Polaris moving their manufacturing plant from Wisconsin to Mexico -- and that happened even before Walker started firing people. Walker took a lot of aggregate demand out of the Wisconsin economy and now he wants to blame the unions for not playing dead. Yeah, right. What is happening in Wisconsin today with the economy was predicted and the reason was obvious.

When something goes wrong, even if it's your fault, blame it on the other guy. When something goes right, take the credit even if it's the other guy that deserves the credit.

Nobody knows who's law to follow..

He still broke the law. Normally such action would be an impeachable offense but there's no checks and balances there.

Walker started the whole Union fight. Yet somehow fighting back was the problem.

I can understand businesses playing close to the vest with Act 10 and HCA still in doubt, but that was decided last year.

Jobs are created via consumer demand. If the demand for goods and services had always been there, hiring should have taken off after the June re-calls. But it hasn't, which leads me to conclude reducing the paychecks of hundreds of thousands has contracted the Wisconsin economy.

When Walker was inaugurated, the US UE was 9.0% and WI UE 7.4%.
Now it's 7.7% and 7.2%, respectively. The gap is narrowing.

I'm out of work and looking. If I don't find anything in the Milwaukee market in the next couple of months, I may have to shift my focus out of state (Chicagoland).
