Iran bans Simpsons dolls, fearing infiltration of western culture
Report by state-affiliated educational institute blacklists popular U.S. cartoon, but allowing Superman and Spiderman since they help the 'oppressed.'
An Iranian government-affiliated agency has banned dolls of the Simpsons cartoon characters, who join Barbie and others on a toy blacklist, an independent newspaper reported on Monday.
The report said that the Simpsons were banned to avoid the promotion of Western culture. But Superman and Spiderman were allowed, because they helped the "oppressed."
"We do not want to promote this cartoon by importing the toys," Shargh daily quoted Mohammad Hossein Farjoo, secretary of policymaking at the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults, as saying.

(50,546 posts)During the 1991 Gulf War, the Iraqis set up a "Tokyo Rose" propaganda station. Every GI I talked to who served in Saudi listened to Baghdad Betty because she played better music than the American Forces Network station did.
Anyway, one fine day she tried to piss off the troops by claiming their wives were unfaithful: "American GIs, your wives are sleeping with Tom Selleck and Bart Simpson."
The Iranians don't like the Iraqis, but things like Bart screwing 200,000 American women get around.
