Amanda Knox appeals against slander conviction in Italy
Amanda Knox has filed an appeal against her conviction for slander in Italy, a family spokesman says.
Last October, an appeals court overturned the US citizen's 2009 conviction for murder over the death of her British flatmate, Meredith Kercher.
Kercher was found dead in 2007 in the flat they shared in Perugia, Italy.
Ms Knox was given a three-year sentence for slander after falsely accusing the owner of a Perugia bar where she worked of involvement in the killing.

(3,596 posts)If I were her I would still want to have my name cleared. While the U.S. is unlikely to extradite her for a slander conviction her ability to travel and have a normal life will be hampered by a standing conviction. She could not travel to any EU country and would never know what her freedom of movement would be.
Hopefully this is resolved in her favor very soon.

(53 posts)When the murder convictions were tossed, the slander conviction was upheld and she was sentenced to time served and released. So it isn't like it is a new charge she would have to answer too. I do agree it is in her best interest to clear her name, tho.

The Italian Police are who accused this man, and put the idea into Knox's head because of texts between the two of them, and because of a hair from a black person found at the crime scene. THEY caused him the harm. She immediately recanted the statement. THEY are the ones who kept him jailed long after his airtight alibi was given, because they needed a black guy, and old Rudy hadn't been snagged yet.
