Argentina to raise Falklands UK 'militarisation' at UN

Argentina is to make a formal complaint to the United Nations about British "militarisation" around the disputed Falkland Islands.

President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner made the announcement at a meeting of MPs, senior officials, and veterans of the 1982 war Argentina fought with Britain over the islands.

Tensions between the two countries have been increasing in recent weeks.

Last month, the UK said it was sending a destroyer to the region.

Prince William has been deployed to the Falkland Islands to shout “Come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough!” across the 200 mile exclusion zone surrounding the islands.

The second-in-line to the throne is a pilot with the RAF and has received special training in jabbing his forefinger out of the helicopter and shouting, “Oi! Are you looking at our islands?”

UK Defence Secretary Philip Hammond said this morning, “William’s uncle, Prince Andrew, served in a similar role in the conflict 30 years ago. He was well up for it. Mental.”

Reaction in Buenos Aires has been swift, with President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s friends dragging her back from making an inflammatory speech on the famous Casa Rosada balcony, shrieking, “Leave it, Cristina. It ain’t worth it.”

Prince William "giving them some of that" as we would say over here.

Its almost tragic farce this. The UN had already said that the inhabitants should be the only ones to decide this issue and we all know what they'd say. If push came to shove they could be given complete independence and made a member of the EU and NATO - try sorting that one out Argentina.

"We welcome the deployment of HRH the Duke of Cambridge to the Falkland Islands, as we welcome all RAF Search and Rescue pilots to the Falklands. The RAF Search and Rescue crews provide an invaluable service by improving safety and saving lives.

We very much hope that the Prince William will enjoy his time working on our islands".
