Uncle arranging Boston bomb suspect's burial rites

Source: AP-Excite

By DENISE LAVOIE

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - The uncle of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev arrived in Massachusetts on Sunday to arrange for his burial, saying he understands that "no one wants to associate their names with such evil events."

Ruslan Tsarni, of Montgomery Village, Md., and three of his friends met with the Worcester funeral home director and prepared to wash and shroud Tsarnaev's body according to Muslim tradition. The 26-year-old died after a gun battle with police on April 19.

Funeral director Peter Stefan said he hasn't been able to find a cemetery in Massachusetts willing to take the body. He said he plans to ask the city of Cambridge, where Tsarnaev lived, to provide a burial plot, and if Cambridge turns him down, he will seek help from state officials.

Tsarni told reporters that he is arranging for Tsarnaev's burial because religion and tradition call for his nephew to be buried. He would like him buried in Massachusetts because he's lived in the state for the last decade, he said.

I do believe a "relative" of mine is buried in "Potter's Field" so to speak.

Luckily, not a "real" relative.

However, what the hell ....

came from Uncle Ruslan. Now he's stepped up to try to get one of them buried according to Islamic tradition. I hope he's successful. I also hope the grave is relatively unmarked, to save the graveyard from souvenir hunters.

I wish the haters would just STFU, but they never do.

The kid is dead. Let him be planted in peace.

It's time for the body to be interred quietly and unremarkably, and the news media to move forward.

No matter the wrath that I might feel toward the actions of the bombers, this one is dead, as you say. He cannot hurt anyone again. Let his family have whatever closure they may be able to gain from his burial.

I think we would all do well to have a family member like Uncle Ruslan. Seems like he's principled and very strong. He does what has to be done without complaint.

or maybe a better analogy is being a cop who is called upon to restore peace because local adults do not know how to behave like adults.

I know someone who got separated from her dog because of an El Al policy that animals can't be transported on the same flight as a corpse in accordance with hachala (jewish law). On her flight was a last minute addition - a body that had to be flown to Israel IMMEDIATELY for burial because of the 24 hour Orthodox rule about burying people within a day of their death. No preapproval necessary. Make check payable.

It was a very nerve wracking situation for her to land and find out her dog was still at La Guardia.

That way, he can have a proper burial according to Muslim law and no one can know it is him so the grave cannot be desecrated. That seems like a good compromise.
