Gun Lobbying Group Smears Father Of School Shooting Victim
Source: Huffington Post
WASHINGTON -- A Connecticut gun lobbying group on Wednesday personally attacked the father of a Sandy Hook school massacre victim, accusing him of "profitting off of the tragedy" and saying a decade-old drug arrest makes him a "poster boy" for background check ineffectiveness.
Connecticut Carry, a nonprofit gun lobbying organization, singled out Neil Heslin, whose son Jesse Lewis was killed in the December school shooting, in a press release. Heslin has testified before Congress and attended events at the White House with President Barack Obama in support of increased background checks for gun purchasers.
Heslin was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday to answer charges related to driving with a suspended license and writing bad checks. He has pleaded not guilty, the News Times reported. Heslin was convicted of felony narcotics possession more than a decade ago, around the same period he was arrested multiple times for driving under the influence. Attempts to reach Heslin Wednesday were unsuccessful.
Referring to Heslin's White House visits, the gun lobby group said, "A felon within arms reach of the president of the administration so dead set on background checks. No better testimony to how ineffective background checks are needs to be presented."

Or would want to.
Well, wishing for karma to turn the wheel a little faster.
They're in the same category now as the Westboro scum, NRA close behind, if not there already.

(28,498 posts)Mr. Heslin may have had run-ins with the law, but he's not wanting to buy a gun so what does the "'poster boy' for background checks" had to do with it?
And what the hell does this have to do with anything? Referring to Heslin's White House visits, the gun lobby group said, "A felon within arms reach of the president of the administration so dead set on background checks. No better testimony to how ineffective background checks are needs to be presented.

(239 posts)If this dad got a job related to his life altering personal experience, he'd be following in many positive footsteps before him. The father whose son was kidnapped years ago---ended up making a difference, then on America's Most Wanted. Lady whose sister died of breast cancer---she's behind millions in cancer research and a pink ribboned bank account of her own. So I hope this dad does get a job that marries his passion with his living. Condemn him? Ridiculous.
And as for his decade old drug possession felony and what followed . . . Anyone who's loved, known or been an addict/alcoholic recognizes that tragic story and how America's culture kicks 'em when they're down, then locks 'em up and/or fines them into oblivion rather than get them the help they need.

Can't imagine anyone defending this, but then again, I can't imagine anyone uttering it in the first place.
I guess their position is that any felon that has served out his sentence and out of probation, should never be allowed near the president? Well, there's no such law... The Secret Service allows or denies access on very subjective criteria, and I doubt they consider him a threat.
I imagine members of that group are going 'Yay, we GOT him HA! Character assassination for the win!' and they are going to sit around sullen over beers unable to understand what happened when it backfires.

(22,651 posts)These clubs of political naggers and harassers should pay their taxes, and not be allowed non-profit status or tax deducations for 'donations'.
Feels to me that this is a crime to harass, slander and libel a single American citizen. Can he sue that new club of republican harassers??
The thousands upon thousands of "political charities" are just a front for the extremely wealthy to ramp up their attacks and get it all tax free.
Political non-profits, don't pay state taxes! they hurt real charities bigtime, the legit charities are suffering for donations.
