Nawaz Sharif claims victory in Pakistan presidential election

Source: Telegraph.UK

During a close-fought campaign Nawaz Sharif had promised to end drone strikes and review the country’s relationship with America.

On Saturday night, as he publically claimed victory in the poll, the two times prime minister sought to reassure Western governments and said he would not pull back on the fight against al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

“I have experience of working with US counterparts and will be very happy to further work with them,” he told The Sunday Telegraph.

“What is most important is that we must never allow our soil to be used by anyone to create problems with any country in this world.”

Sharif is a good man. Hopefully he will hang Musharraf and reduce the power of the military which once exiled him.

It will be a symbolic message to the military leaders that this could happen to them as well.

It's the sign of a mature democracy, wouldn't you say? Things like courts are so messy.

and it is a well-known fact.

Won't take a long trial to hang him.

Musharraf is the terrorist-in-chief and the architect behind Osama bin Laden's and Taliban adventures. He deserves to be hanged.

shows you have contempt for the principles of justice and democracy. PMs do not decide cases. Neither do they give clemency. You're wanting the rule of law to be overturned in Pakistan. Not that that is a surprise, given your track record of contempt for the country.

Sharif will single-handedly hang Musharraf without involving the courts. Please note that Musharraf is currently under house arrest by the order or the "court" that you seem to mention.

But, your misunderstanding me while casting aspersions on me for my anti-terrorism stance is a projection of your inherent sympathy for the terrorist military and ISI of Pakistan which I have never seen you condemn.

4. Sharif stages comeback in landmark Pakistan election

(Reuters) - Toppled in a 1999 coup, jailed and exiled, Nawaz Sharif has made a triumphant election comeback and was heading for a third term as Pakistan's prime minister.

The polls were a landmark, marking the first time one elected government will replace another. But the vote failed to realize the hopes of many that dynastic politics would end after years of misrule and corruption.

The wealthy steel magnate from the pivotal Punjab province held off a challenge from former cricket star Imran Khan who had hoped to break decades of dominance by Sharif and the Pakistan People's Party led by the Bhutto family.

Sharif, 63, declared victory in a jubilant speech to supporters as results from Saturday's election showed a overwhelming lead for his party.
