The three women who were rescued May 6 around a decade after disappearing released their first statement Sunday, saying they are happy to be free and pleaded for privacy. Attorney Jim Wooley read the statements attributed to the three women, reports the Associated Press. He also said that Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight will not give any interviews until the case against suspect Ariel Castro has gone to trial, according to CNN.
Thank you to everyone for your support and good wishes. I am healthy, happy and safe and will reach out to family, friends and supporters in good time, Knight said. I am so happy to be home with my family, Berry said. And the youngest woman, DeJesus, said: I am so happy to be home, and I want to thank everybody for all your prayers. I just want time now to be with my family.
DeJesus mother is celebrating the best Mothers Day ever on Sunday, points out Reuters, recalling an interview Nancy Ruiz gave last week. "This is the best Mother's Day I could ever have," Ruiz said.

(111,222 posts)One month, six months, a year, five years, ten years and so forth, until they're talking nonsense into their pureed peas at the old folks' home.
Even name changes won't help since those are part of the court record.
I just hope the Castro brothers all turn on each other and save the state the cost and hooplah of a big trial.

(45,319 posts)Just fyi. I double checked because you post suggests they are all charged and in custody facing trial. This is what I found:
"Police released Pedro and Onil Castro a few days later, saying neither man had anything to do with the alleged abductions and torture of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight."

(111,222 posts)I have a feeling they were released in exchange for their testimony against their brother.

(12,041 posts)There does not seem to be any evidence that the brothers knew what was going on. Most of the evidence seems to indicate that Ariel Castro acted alone.

(111,222 posts)A troubling part of this whole thing all along was thinking the three of them were in this together.
I hope Ariel Castro never sees the light of day again except through chain link, razor wire, and bars. He needs to be prevented from doing this to other women, ever again.
The worst is knowing he's likely not alone.

(1,689 posts)you should have tried reading a news report.
Ask yourself, why would the police release them in order to gain their testimony when they already have the three young women who are more than capable of testifying as to what happened?

(60,536 posts)accompanying the article, you'll learn the brothers have been released and no charges are being brought against them. The CNN interview with the brothers is also at the link.

(12,502 posts)Dianne Sawyer, Katie Couric, Oprah et al are all probably orgasmic calling, calling, calling, and calling to plead for the interview. Sawyer is probably practicing her tilt-head WTF look right now in her bathroom mirror.

(57,055 posts)the full impact of what a rotten hand these three (four counting the child), have had is almost beyond comprehension and the fact that it still isn't over and may not be for a very long time is the stuff no one should ever have to have wrapped around them.

(11,014 posts)their upcoming civil suit against Cleveland is settled.
Then they will be writing books and giving scripts for a movie. That is the American way! Once their books are published, the press will have no story left.

(11,014 posts)I am stating the facts like they unraveled in the Jesse Duggard case and she was in captivity a lot longer than the Cleveland women and also starting at a very very young age of 11.
I am not trying to diminish the pain and horror all the women must have faced but the society cannot take it back and can only compensate in the form of money.
