CNN exclusive: White House email contradicts Benghazi leaks

Source: CNN

CNN has obtained an email sent by a top aide to President Barack Obama, in which the aide discusses the Obama administration reaction to the attack on the U.S. posts in Benghazi, Libya. The actual email differs from how sources inaccurately quoted and paraphrased it in previous accounts to different media organizations.

The significance of the email seems to be that whomever leaked the inaccurate information earlier this month did so in a way that made it appear that the White House – specifically deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications Ben Rhodes – was more interested in the State Department’s desire to remove mentions of specific terrorist groups and warnings about these groups so as to not bring criticism to the State Department than Rhodes' email actually stated.

Shocker that emails leaked from Darrel Issa to the wingnutosphere were misleading.

they'll say it's a trick by the Democrats to lure Republicans into attacking Obama and Clinton, and then have Obama pull the football away from them like Lucy does with Charlie Brown. So, it's all the fault of the Democrats for dressing up the memo to make it irresistable to Republicans. (playing off the BIll O'Reilly idea of blaming the rape victirm for how she dressed)

When you throw the IRS and AP kerfuffles into the toxic brew of right wing conspiracies behind EVERYTHING, the message to the general population is simply "well, here THEY go again, ANOTHER corrupt administration..." and that's the end of the road for any meaningful changes.

President Obama wasted much of his first term negotiating with himself and waiting for good faith reciprocity from the recalcitrant right...to no avail.

President Obama will now end up wasting much of his second term deflecting nonsensical "scandals" because the media is bought into the idea that they gave Obama a pass in his first term and they will now bend over backwards to give every false equivalency and trumped up bullshit a "fair treatment".

Game.
Set.
Match.

This is EXACTLY why I do not want Hilliary to run in '16. We need someone with far less built in baggage and scandal fodder for the lazy in the press (stories about Hilliary come with built in leads to previous scandals so much that a hack writer could put out a hit piece in 20 minutes and spend the rest of their week screwing off or hitting the beach) or the vengeful right wing idiots (who, while afraid of losing to Hilliary, also know deep down that if they want to maintain the current gridlock status quo - and why WOULDN'T they? their paymasters and owners are doing VERY well right now - that all they would need to do is nothing different than they have been for the last 2 terms).

Its all bullshit, but in short-attention span 21st century 'murica, that doesn't matter at all...

Truth doesn't matter. Headlines do.

If someone hits you in the gut with a big headline (true or not) you have to hit back bigger and badder immediately, within the news cycle. Republicans know this and have been doing it to Democrats for years. Same with language use - Republicans know that if they name something meant to destroy labor protections earned in 1938 as the Family Flexibility Work Bill or whatever they named it, the title sticks in minds, not the actual meaning (same for Contract with America, Clean Skies Act, etc.).

If you are not on offense, you are on defense (came from a recent viewing of West Wing ... been re-watching West Wing this spring - wow, so much of that series is still the crap we are dealing with and it was ten years ago). Anyway, the Dems are constantly on defense and have been since, I dunno, Carter was my first Dem administration and it seemed to be the case then.

And, yeah, I agree with your assessment of a potential Hillary Clinton nomination in '16. We'd never get to the issues, it would just be a series of attack ads based on misinformation and lies from Whitewater, Monica Lewinski, Benghazi, etc. I am kind of liking Biden or Warren, myself.

She is far more experienced than Obama, and if Whitewater and Vince pseudo scandal are brought up, most of my conservative friends just laugh. They know that stuff is crap. As for Benghazi, she handled that interrogation with aplomb. Unfortunately, any new candidate, even Elizabeth Warren, will also be hit with curve balls soaked in spit. It is beyond reasonable to finally have a women President, and no one, male or female, is as qualified as Rodham.

Personally, I cannot WAIT for the Sunday morning programs where we get to hear people
talk about how last week's email was bought, lock, stock and barrel by EVERYONE
in the media, but the Obama administration stood their ground. And they were right
to do so.

To me, this whole thing makes the republicans look REALLY bad. They are quick to yell "scandal"
and demand impeachment hearings. It backfired on them when they did it to Clinton in the 90's.
And it
will backfire on them again, now.

Sure she is married to Bill Clinton who was impeached and may have been a serial adulterer, but that is all old news in an era where the GOP has demonstrated their willingness to overlook Gingrich's transgressions and Mark Sanford hiking the Appalachian Trail.

What President Obama needs to do is to call Bullshit, Bullshit and call the media out for their role in supporting the Bullshit. Every two bit 'journalist' and blogger wants to be the next Woodward and Bernstein, in spite of the fact that there is no evidence, and that there is no there, there, in all of these manufactured crisis, which are not rooted in any search for the truth, but intended to inflict maximum damage simply by making the allegation. If President Obama allows it to continue, he deserves the taint which will forever follow him. What he's not entitled to is to take the party down with him, simply because he's not willing to bloody his enemy's nose.

there is not much difference between CNN, FOX, ABC, CBS. They all lie to make a story, instead of reporting the story. Is there such a thing as journalism school and journalism degrees anymore. The important thing is to get on the air with the most bullshit before anyone else can. No ethics, no morals, no sense of journalism. I took a journalism course in high school. Who, what, when, where and how were the questions to ask and get "truthful" answers to. All these guys miss about 6 inches. That is the standard distance from on ear to the other ear.

I guess I'm not surprised that they'll be throwing anything and everything they have at Obama, Hillary and the Dems in general over the next couple of years. The Repugs need to discredit them if they have a prayer of a chance of ever winning back the WH. Hillary also has the clout to bring in a lot of new Dem Senators and House Reps.

they have Hillary winning in Texas, and even beating Marco Rubio in Florida, and neck & neck with Rand Paul in Kentucky. They should be scared. If Hillary wins in a Nixon/McGovern, Reagan/Mondal or LBJ/Goldwater type landslide, it would likely tip the House to Democrats as well in the tidal wave.
