Army Sexual Assault Prevention Office Coordinator Accused of 'Abusive Sexual Contact'
Source: AP via HuffPo
WASHINGTON -- The Army says the coordinator of a sexual assault prevention program at Fort Hood, Texas, is under investigation for "abusive sexual contact" and other alleged misconduct. He has been suspended from all duties.
The announcement Wednesday evening came just days after the arrest of the Air Force's head of sexual assault prevention on charges of groping a woman in a northern Virginia parking lot.
The Army said a sergeant first class, whose name was not released, is accused of pandering, abusive sexual contact, assault and maltreatment of subordinates.
He had been assigned as an equal opportunity adviser and coordinator of a sexual harassment-assault prevention program at the Army's 3rd Corps headquarters at Fort Hood when the allegation arose.

The 1991 Tailhook scandal, involving naval pilots who sexually abused female officers at a convention in a Las Vegas hotel, excited plenty of outrage at the time as an example of military attitudes and Top Gun libidos running amok. Tonight ''The Navy Blues'' digs into the impact it has had on the Navy.

(2,252 posts)...but as far as I can determine neither the Navy nor any other branch of the military had a program to prevent sexual assault until much more recently than 1991. So no Navy coordinator of a program to prevent sexual assault would have been present and involved at Tailhook.
Here's a link to information on the Navy's 'SAPR' program, Sexual Assault Prevention and Response, evidently established after the Strategic Direction to the Joint Force on Sexual Assault Prevention and Response issued by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on May 7, 2012.
So, I think the Navy is still in the running to disclose an abusive prevention program coordinator. Go Navy.

(5,763 posts). . . don't like to imagine being treated the same way they treat women. That's their model of sexual relations, that's what they think gays want to do to them. They don't even like to imagine being thought of the same way.

Lawmakers outraged over another military sex case
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Lawmakers say they're outraged that for the second time this month a member of the armed forces assigned to help prevent sexual assaults in the military is under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., said she intends to present new comprehensive legislation on Thursday to overhaul the military justice system by removing chain-of-command influence from prosecution of sex abuse crimes.
"To say this report is disturbing would be a gross understatement," Gillibrand said.
