Iran hangs two men for spying for Israel and US

Source: BBC

Iran has hanged two men convicted of spying for Israel and the US, the authorities there have said.

Mohammad Heydari was found guilty of passing intelligence on "security issues and national secrets" to Israeli Mossad agents in exchange for cash.

Kourosh Ahmadi was convicted of providing intelligence to the CIA, Tehran's prosecutor's office said.
...
It is not clear when Heydari and Ahmadi were arrested or where they were tried.

9. At least they were tried, our Prisoners in GITMO can not even get that

The article says it is unclear where they were tried, but some sort of trial was held. Something the prisoners at GITMO have been denied over and over again.

On the same page, a different article had the following to say about a different Spy case from 2012, which clearly shows people accused of spying get TRIALS and those Trials are subject to Judicial review, which is more then we are giving the prisoners in GITMO.

Iran overturns death sentence for 'CIA spy' Hekmati

Amir Mirzai Hekmati has an American passport and is a former US marine

Iran sentences 'CIA spy' to death. US urges Iran to free alleged spy. Iranians detain alleged 'CIA spy'

Iran's Supreme Court has overturned the death sentence given to an Iranian-American national accused of spying for the CIA and ordered a retrial.

Judges had found the verdict against Amir Mirzai Hekmati was "not complete" and referred his case to an affiliate court, a judiciary spokesman said.

He appears still to be in Jail:

I bet you the original horrible military commissions set up by Bush (which I opposed and still do and still think gitmo should be shut down) but I bet you bush's kangaroo courts afforded more due process than whatever (if any trial) these people got.

screwed. Don't piss those guys off or you'll disappear.

The bonus is that the regime can point to these dead guys who had no defense and say "See? See?" even though there's nothing to see at all.

Their families will be lucky if they get the bodies to bury.

Seeing Iran have nukes is so heartwarming.

They could use it themselves
They could give it to Syria
Hezbollah
Hamas

Or just sell it to some group who doesn't like Danish cartoons.

What could possibly go wrong?

Exactly like this. We have waged economic warfare against them with ineffective sanctions for decades! Iranian citizens hate us, I'm sure their government shares that sentiment. All because they want to trade oil in different currencies and drop the USD.

That is what the fuss is all about. The nukes thing is a smokescreen - this is an instant reply of Iraq, as Saddam was pushing for a campaign to pay for oil in Euros.

It's their sanctions that are hurting the people of Iran (the US doesn't have the power to bring sanctions - neither do our allies).

As a people, they absolutely are enthralled with the US. If any people on Earth would have voted for George W. Bush, it would have been Iranians. They're stuck in the '70s (oh God, bellbottoms!, NOOO), but they are all about everything the US has.

If we were serious about otherthrowing the Iranian Gov, we'd be broadcasting MTV nonstop over VOA, dropping Victoria Secret catalogues from stealth bombers, and smuggling in DVDs of anime. The civil war would be over in a few weeks.

They don't tolerate ANYthing. This is a country in which union people are routinely beaten, arrested and held without any formal process.

It's a damned oligarchy, and a very sick one:

This shit has been going on for years and years.

A country in which an attempt to organize a strike or even hold a labor meeting can get you killed is a place that lies far, far outside any recognized international norms.

No-one has been saying in this thread "I believe they were spies, but they should have been let go". The main doubt is about whether what they got was a fair trial, since nothing was known about it before they were hanged. Several people have suggested that they might not have been spies at all, but that it was used as a convenient way to get rid of 2 Iranians their government wanted to get rid of. Some have said "Iran is bound to get angry because of the way the US/Israel treats it".

So, no, the DU reaction really can't be compared to the Pollard situation at all. He got a fair trial. He's still alive.
