House preserves its own budget as others face cuts

Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — House lawmakers are moving to protect Capitol Hill’s budget even as they’re working to slash other programs like education, health research, water projects and housing aid for the poor.

The effort by the House Appropriations Committee promises a small budget increase for legislative branch operations even as funding for labor, health and education programs would absorb an almost 20 percent cut. Federal firefighting efforts also face big cuts, as do transportation and community development grants.

The GOP-controlled panel is giving Congress a budgetary reprieve after three consecutive years of cutting Capitol Hill’s operating budget. The House budget has dropped by 15 percent to $1.2 billion over that time from the record levels established when Democrats controlled Congress.

Appropriations panel spokeswoman Jennifer Hing said the reason for the slight budget increase include greater police costs and security upgrades for the House’s oldest office building.

4.5 million dollars a week to operate. Whether in session or not. According to AP the Democrats raised the operating budget. But failed to mention that Democrats have productive sessions. AP is sloppy journalism and never fails to get a dig in against the Dems. I don't read anything that starts with (AP) in my local newspaper.
And yeah ... I just got my own dig at AP.

And furthermore, all cuts on the budget that affects the Republicans are approved. Cuts that affects the workers and the poor are not. Therefore, there is a need for offset from the Department of Defense at the tune of $900 billion to pay for all the worker and the poor needs, rather that the fat-cat Republicans who gets "free things" courtesy of the U.S. taxpayers.

Wall to wall coverage of congressional privilege abused !

Oh, wait, I forgot, it's ok if you are a republican. I suppose they will find a way to pin this on Reid and Pelosi, and Obama. Or Barney Frank.
